it improves shift response reduces slip and band wear improves performance and fuel economy. its a good thing to do regularly especially if you do any towing. budd polxcsp wrote just wondering what this adjustment doesim going to have my trans fluid changed and this is said to be part of the servicethanks for any help kevin 97 ram sport .

redneck tookover hell wrote not to be picky budd but if the band has allowed slippage it is toast already. not always. i know of several transmissions from all three major manufacturers that didnt toast instantly. one belonging to an elderly lady went an estimated 20000 miles slipping noticeably from curbside but the key was she never accelerated hard. the adjustment decrease the chance of slippage as the band material wears. no argument basically but why do you say the chance of slippage in you previous sentence you make it sound like its either/or. many good transmission mechanics are of the opinion that a band adjustment does nothing. then stay away from them theyre not trans mechanics just aamco rejects imho. if it slips it slips and its time for replacement. once its slipped no amount of adjustment will help really then explain how i adjusted the slipping bands in my 68 my 65 and my 72 two 727s and one 904 and continued to drive them without any more slip and yes in my limited experiience i favor that idea. never adjusted a band in my life and never had a failure because of it. i have adjusted bands and stopped slipping. i have seen transmission run a fairly long time under light loads with slipping transmissions. my only trans failure was a 727 that i put back together wrong iow my goof. your results may vary obviously. budd .
