what do I need for cold weather

From : dave

Q: i have a 06 2005 ctd. i live in the phoenix az area and will be visiting central utah where the lows are expected to be about 10 degrees with the highs at 35 to 40 degrees. do i need to do anything special to my truck the dealer in phoenix was not much help! you neednt do anything different for those temps. the wait to start light will take a tad bit longer to go out before starting. the block heater really isnt necessary untill temps drop below zero degrees. one thought comes to mind however. you want to make sure that your fuel is primarly the local blend as the fuel in phoenix is probably still #2 diesel. the fuel in utah is the winter blend. hope this helps! mike .

hello i recently purchased a 06 ram with hemimds. when idling you can feel a slight vibration. i saw online a reviewer also noticed this. what is the cause of this do i need to question the service dept on this my 04 ram with hemino mds didnt have this. truck is great though the black metallic paint is beutiful espcially in the sunlight and i guess the trx4 offroad adds something but i guess not much unless you actually take it offroad. i made the mistake of going to gmc sierra when i traded in my 04 ram so after 6 months of its lousy steering i just took the loss and got this truck... live lesson learned! sorry for the rant.. thanks bill .

i have 93 3/4 ton pickup. i think maybe it is called a d250. the rear leaf spring brackets are all rotted out. my local mechanic has quote me 600 bucks to replace brackets and springs. he has the parts on hand. he was in the middle of restoring his own truck and then a kid came along and one thing leads to another and he abandons his truck restoration project and is left with the parts. so anyway he shows me the new brackets and shackles and springs andf stainless steel bolts and so forth on his truck. it all looks very nice. so here are the questions. is 600 bucks a good deal the frame rails look ok but is it possible he will get into it and find that the frame rails arr going to need to be strengthened is this a common thing or is brackets usually all that is needed he says the oem brackets are hard to find. is this true regards bob .

marcus wrote wow 0 at idle! fram or not that sounds like a defective oil filter. thats great that you caught it! i think i recall that fram uses too much flimsy cardboard and plastic where wix and others use better materials. you can also get an oil pressure and volume boost by running the larger oil filter rather than the current shorty type chrysler switched to back in the 80s. forgive the fram part numbers -- but i think the shorty is ph16 and the larger one is ph8. dodge and ford have the mounting boss for their small block v8s. anything that fits a sbf will fit 5.2/5.9. i generally use purolater pro-1 their premium blue filter. rate among the top 2-3 and easy to find. they often go on sale at pep boys. -- ..bob 2006 fxdi hot rod 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1965 ffr cobra - 427w efi damn fast. .

these prayer chains friendship chains heart-wrenching stories and others like them are just chain letters. they are idiotic. theyre in the same category with virus warnings hoaxes etc. virtually everyone who forwards them does so reflexively. they provide no value and no results and are more burdensome on the internet due to their sheer quantity than you can imagine. do you want to support our troops then make a chain that produces results. a far more useful and productive chain that would produce results would be one that encourages donations for military family support organizations or other worthwhile charities -- and provides links. but instead its a just a sappy chain letter that will never accomplish results except to add to the endless circulation of useless chain letters around the globe. with a god-bless-you and an amen to try to leverage a guilt trip on anyone who doesnt forward it. god bless you! amen! great show of support to our troops considering the time of year that it is. asshole idiots and their chain letters. i figured you folks would find use for this. roy .

how many miles are on the engine over 70000 then it sounds like the stock pump works fine. my son has a 318 essentially same engine as yours in a 79 dodge with over 400k miles on it and its been torn down once at 290k miles. i checked the wear in the pump it was 0.001 under maximum wear so i popped in a napa rebuilt pump. with 10w-40 oil and a warmed up engine he has 60+ psi at 2500 rpm and 15 psi at idle 725 rpm. ymmv do you intend to race it then you might need a bigger pump if not the stock is fine. the oil pick up isnt that restrictive chevy used a worse design for years. just make sure its within a 1/4 of the pan bottom when it goes back together. also get a priming tool and prime the engine before restart. budd i have to replace some rod bearings and while i am in the motor i mught as well do it right. as far as a new oil pump goes they show 2. one being a high volume pump tha says it pumps 25% more oil. would this be a better replacement pump since the dodge 5.2l engines have had oil supply problems would you need to install restrictor plugs if a high volume pump was used. i had to use restrictor plugs on a chevy 350 i built about 20 years ago. what would you all recommend going with the standard pump or the high volume pump. one other thing about the pump pick up tube. i have heard the pick up has an opening about the size of a nickel and therefore is very susceptible to sludge. would it mess up the fluid dynamics of the pump if that opening were enlarged dj -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .
