jc wrote i was wanting to get a alarm with keyless entry and remote start features...for a 95 2wd ram 1500 pu. any suggestions tia jc i installed a hornet 553t alarm with remote start in a friends car. the install was not difficult but very time consuming. it works very well and can be found for under $200. this system is for fuel injected gas or diesel vehicles with automatic transmissions. get a good digital multimeter and a manual for your truck that includes lighting and engine electrical schematics before you begin installing. i recommend reading the install and owners guides for any system before you buy. purchase online http//www.drdetailshop.com/553t.htm owners manual http//www.directed.com/guides/pdfs/553t.pdf installation guide http//www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/hornet/n553t.pdf .

i think the problem was the instructions were lacking detail. most of us knew what the poster meant obviously some didnt. running it up to temp w/the cap off did not suggest to many of us at least not to me that the poster meant to drive around w/the cap off. the problem of course was air in the system. by allowing it to reach temperature idling in the driveway for clarity the stat will eventually open and the coolant will circulate. the trapped air would then logically make its way around to the radiator and bubble out the open cap. jeeze. w/some horses it is not only necessary to lead them to water but occasionally go so far as to hold their head under while applying suction to their backside ;- ok so im a dumbass. i can handle that. bg but who is gonna apply the suction to the horses backside denny .

because many times not all they are junk alarms that are offered by fly-by-night companies that will disappear in a short period of time. so if you dont buy a junk alarm a lifetime warranty is okay wtf would sombody put a junk alarm in a truck/car they are trying to protect. to answer the original post viper was usually pretty good imo. roy i was wanting to get a alarm with keyless entry and remote start features...for a 95 2wd ram 1500 pu. any suggestions tia jc look at the crimeguard model cg-850i. see if they have the custom harnesses for your vehicle. http//www.caralarm.com/pages/productcrimeguard.html try to find a unit that you can install yourself. in general avoid alarms that offer so-called lifetime warranties. what would be bad about a lifetime warranty just curious. denny .

i bought a 2004 quadcab 4x4 laramie with the hemi a few weeks ago. being that it is winter out here in winnipeg i love the allwheel drive for leaving stop lights and signs. you get better traction but not like four wheel drive because you dont have the choppy feeling that you get in four wheel drive when you turn the wheel. its is smooth driving on the highway. you dont notice it at all. i would be only guessing but i think it is a little harder on fuel. just my two cents. but i have a sneaky feeling that i will be hating it in the summer when you want to roast the rear tires with the hemi. on 30 nov 2003 180932 gmt drew cutter andrewc@wcoil.com wrote has anyone taken a test drive in a awd hemi impressions good enough for someone who doesnt need 4wd but wants something close to the traction of 4wd im not excited about the traction on 2wd . how does all drive handle on the highway ive only had experience with awd cars but i love their handling especially on corners.... imho theyre 180 degrees from 4 wheel drive and have different purposes... i wouldnt take awd in the mud or off road but it feels great on a wet freeway at high speed.... .

because many times not all they are junk alarms that are offered by fly-by-night companies that will disappear in a short period of time. so if you dont buy a junk alarm a lifetime warranty is okay sure why not i made that statement that way because if you paint with too broad a brush saying that all companies that offer a lifetime warranty are junk in this group you get nailed for it and it seems with some people you get nailed anyway. wtf would sombody put a junk alarm in a truck/car they are trying to protect. that is the whole point is your reading comprehention slipping today you should avoid the no-name alarms with the lifetime warranty so that you dont put a junk alarm in the vehicle that you are trying to protect. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

i was wanting to get a alarm with keyless entry and remote start features...for a 95 2wd ram 1500 pu. any suggestions tia jc i had a designtech autocommand put in my 01 ram. i know it is set up for somebody to do it alone but i had somebody put it in for me that knows what they are doing when it comes to that stuff. you can program whether or not you want the lights to come on when you start it what type of alarm you want active or passive and etc. the keyless remote works about 1000 feet away at the most. i think the whole deal is around 150 bucks if you do it yourself. check out their website http//www.designtechinternational.com . hope this is some help to you i am very pleased with mine. .

try to find a unit that you can install yourself. in general avoid alarms that offer so-called lifetime warranties. what would be bad about a lifetime warranty just curious. nothing is bad about it per-se but in my experience the worst alarms ive had were ones with so-called lifetime warranties. the lifetime warranty is often a gimmick that often is used to push poor quality products to naive consumers that believe that a product must be of exceptional quality if the manufacturer is daring enough to offer such a generous warranty. i had a lifetime warranty dei python alarm installed in a 96 toyota camry. the alarm never worked properly. the installing dealer could never get it to work. the warranty was only valid at the installing dealer. the dealer would not replace it he could not fix it even though he tried repeatedly. the manufacturer dei was no help. i asked the installer to remove it; he screwed up the engine computer costing me an additional $80 to get the computer reset. it was a combination of a defective alarm a crappy dealer and a manufacturer that couldnt care less. so despite a lifetime warranty the alarm was a total loss after less than a year. i still keep it in my garage hoping that someday dei will reimburse me for the loss. we still have this car too seven years later. six of the years it has been protected by a crimeguard 328i that i installed myself and that has worked just fine. if i had an alarm installed professionally id have it done at a big box retailer like best buy or circuit city simply because you have recourse if things go wrong or they screw up your vehicle. now when installing alarms for people i use crimeguard or i buy the factory alarm modules from a parts wholesaler. i like the crimeguard because in many cases they have custom wiring harnesses available that ease the installation. as to authorized dealers dont believe that becoming an authorized dealer for any alarm requires any sort of qualifications other than the dealers check clearing! i dont want to imply that all dei products are bad just that if you do get a bad one the lifetime warranty offers you no assurance of getting the unit replaced or repaired in reality something like an alarm is rarely repaired as the cost of troubleshooting and repairing it far exceeds the cost of simply replacing it. with a crimeguard i can send it back for a replacement during the warranty period and the reality is that if its going to fail at all its going to fail within a couple of years after installation. i have never had to send one in for repair or replacement. i advise everyone against buying dei products not just because of my experience and that of several other people who have ran into similar problems but because they dont stand behind their products. another thing to watch out for is companies that claim that their products are somehow superior because their company is iso 9000 certified. iso 9000 looks at procedures both in terms of manufacturing and business. it does not have anything to do with the quality of the products design. if all things were equal then youd have a better chance of a good product from an iso 9000 certified manufacturer but all things are not equal. i just went through iso 9000 at work and the good thing about it is that it forces you to have good documentation and policies and procedures. it doesnt have anything to do with the design of the product. the tendency of some companies to misstate the meaning of iso 9000 leads me to believe that they are using it in place of manufacturing quality products. in short you want to buy from a store that stands behinds its products and a manufacturer that stands behind its products and not rely on lifetime warranties. ive been impressed with crutchfield and the omega crime guard series of alarms that they sell. and it takes a lot to impress me about a product of reseller! i have had some products with lifetime warranties that actually were true warranties. i returned a ratchet to sears 25 years after i bought it and they gave me a replacement no questions asked. even so i know that the craftsman tools are not of exceptional quality compared to commercial quality tools sold by snap-on or other high end tool makers but at least i know that sears stands behind them. .
