1st how am i supposed to raise the motor i dont see the oil pan as a good lift point actually with a piece of wood 2x4 2x6 or small piece of plywood its perfectly fine to lift the engine by the oil pan with a floor jack - especially since you already have the heads off. the wood spreads the load out and the pan wont deform on you. 2nd how the hell do i support the motor with a pipe across the opening. sounds a little strange to me. granted ive never worked on a van so i dont know how much of a pain it is to pull the engine but if it were me id just bolt a couple of chains crossways across the block using the head bolts or shorter bolts of the same thread to anchor the chain to the block. then id just hook the engine hoist to the intersection of the chains use the hoist to take the tension off the motor mounts remove the motor mount bolts then raise and pull the motor out maybe with someone underneath to guide the transmission out. .

thats funny make sure you use a *galvinized* pipe - you wouldnt want it to rust! i cant imagine what the pipe is for. i assume youre using an engine hoist just bolt chains to the engine & lift it. use your floor jack to support the trans. going back in its tight so you may need to remove the carb or intake. hth paul aka tha driver giggle cream - it makes dessert *funny*! .

inline howdy ok so i have gotten all of the stuff out of the way ie; radiatior bumper heater blower etc and removed all of the belt accessories and all of the hoses and wires plus the intake manifold and exhaust mainfolds the heads i removed first to see if there was a crack there was now im down to the motor attached to the transmission and im going by a chiltons save my soul i have the factory book here for my 95 gmc if yours is close. heres my problem; the book suggests to raise the motor and support it on a 1 1/2 inch id galvinized pipe straddeling the engine compartment opening the pipe is supposed to hold the weight of the enginewhen you pull the mounting bolts. 1st how am i supposed to raise the motor i dont see the oil pan as a good lift point 2nd how the hell do i support the motor with a pipe across the opening. is my problem because i already removed the heads and the book does not call for that step yep the engine lift brackets are usually at the front and rear of the engine. however with the heads off you have more room. so what you need is an engine lift and a chain that can go across between the front left and right rear and use a pair of the head bolts to bolt it to the block. then just lift it up and pull it out the front of the van. later the removal calls for attatching a removal fixture to the heads damn these guys are specific am i going to have a problem later on since i removed the heads first of will i just have to fabricate somting that will bolt into the block somewhere to lift it out got a chain eap -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .
