the 46re will have a wiring harness leading to the body of the trans above the pan rail one on the pan rail or close to it and one on the tail shaft. the simple method here would be to compare what is in your truck with what you are getting if the wiring is the same then its an easy swap. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author can you tell me what the difference is with the wiring...i have not removed the tranny from the 98 yet so i do not know what to look for. max dodge wrote first off i am new to the dodge brand so you will have to excuse the newbie questions. i have a 1998 ram 1500 5.2l 4x4 that has tranny problems. my question is....will a tranny out of a 1997 ram 1500 5.9l 4x4 bolt up to my engine thanks for the help! yes. be sure to use your flex plate and the good transmissions torque converter. also check to be sure the wiring on the 1997 isnt a 46rh that was a left over since yours is a 46re and requires computer control. if the wiring is the same the trans will be a bolt in for your truck. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author hello all first off i am new to the dodge brand so you will have to excuse the newbie questions. i have a 1998 ram 1500 5.2l 4x4 that has tranny problems. my question is....will a tranny out of a 1997 ram 1500 5.9l 4x4 bolt up to my engine thanks for the help! .

can you tell me what the difference is with the wiring...i have not removed the tranny from the 98 yet so i do not know what to look for. both should have an 8-pin round connector on the drivers side of the transmission as well as a three-pin flat connector just below the round one this is the park/neutral switch and a two-pin square-ish connector on the back of the transmission this is the output speed sensor. you can be sure that your 98 transmission if its original to the truck that is has the above connectors. just make sure your 97 matches up it should - the res started being used in the 96 model year but stranger things have happened. .

is there any way to convert a 94 dodge 3 speed auto trans with a single wire tcc lockup to a 96 two wire lockup. i have a 94 trans but was told it is different the single-wire system switches voltage could be +5v could be +12v - check to be sure to the solenoid to control lockup. the solenoid is self-grounding. on a two-wire system the supply voltage probably +5v is always present and the pcm switches the ground. if you want to use a 94 trans in your 96 truck youd need to use a relay. connect the relays coil terminals to the tcc connector of the wiring harness. provide an adequate power source need to check whether the 94 solenoid wants +12v or +5v to the common terminal of the relay and run the switched output of the relay terminal #87 on an automotive-style relay to the solenoid. when the pcm switches the tcc ground the relays coil will be energized and will switch voltage to the tcc solenoid. .

speaking of knowig his shit about transmissions how about posting the tsb info you promised last week and the link to the aftermarket harness that would adapt the transmission for better towing performance. .

tom how would i check the 94 trans for correct voltage and can i use any type automotive relay. thank you harry .

how would i check the 94 trans for correct voltage and can i use any type automotive relay. get ahold of a 94 wiring diagram and see if it feeds +5v or +12v to the solenoid. as for the relay yes - your typical 30a 12v automotive relay from radio shack will be fine. .

terrific info if you own an old musclecar and want to install a 518 in it. but the original poster to which you promised info on a tsb had a 2002 dakota with a 45rfe trans. so you are full of shit as usual. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author max dodge wrote speaking of knowig his shit about transmissions how about posting the tsb info you promised last week -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author ========== ========== suck a monkeys ass . . http//www.transmissioncenter.net/alto3.htm marsh .
