trannys acting up

Q: 1999 ram v10 auto 62000 mi. been noticing the transmission acting funny on the highway. the engine rpms vary between 200 and 400 when going between 55 and 65 mph. almost like the trannys downshifting. i never towed anything and the trans fluid is full and clear. anyone had this happen before thanks jim .

jim wrote 1999 ram v10 auto 62000 mi. been noticing the transmission acting funny on the highway. the engine rpms vary between 200 and 400 when going between 55 and 65 mph. almost like the trannys downshifting. i never towed anything and the trans fluid is full and clear. anyone had this happen before very common. your torque converter is unlocking and then locking. to test this drive on the highway and just barely tap the brake pedal. you should see your rpms go up 200rpm or so and then immedietly drop back down. the tc will unlock when the brakes are applied. a bad throttle position sensor or brake pedal switch can cause this. several mechanics i have spoken to seem to all believe the most likely cause of this is electrical interference. they put a filter off the alternator and problem was solved for me. dealer could never find the problem. for more info on this problem you might talk to fred of desert diesel he works on non-diesel too at the below address. he has seen this problem many times. http//www.desertdieselparts.com/contactus.htm .
