i think that you confusing the cam and ignition timing. the cam should be set with the marks aligned with piston number 1 being at tdc. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i am replacing a broken timing chain on my 93 3.9 v6 dakota. do you place #1 piston at top dead center and line up the marks on the cam and crank. the haynes book says 34 at tdc. which is it. tia johno .

i think that you confusing the cam and ignition timing. the cam should be set with the marks aligned with piston number 1 being at tdc. i dont know what you think he is confusing. the cam gear mark and the crank gear marks are aligned with the cam gear mark on the bottom and the crank gear mark on top you turn the engine over to put the crank gear mark there and turn the cam before putting on the chain to get the mark on the bottom. the number 1 piston happens to be at tdc but 180 degrees out on timing number 6 cylinder would be firing you can check the alignment with a straightedge or you can put the chain on and turn the crank until the crank gear mark is on the bottom and the cam gear mark is on top and check the alignment. at that point number 1 is in firing position a dyslexic man walks into a bra. .

-- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving obviously you have never tried its actually easier to see misalignment if you say so i never tried to bot it together that way. getting the points aligned that way would be difficult and pointless. first you are saying points then pointless which is it lol are you taking lessons from max points as in the two marks on the timing gears and pointless as in it looks harder to do it that way. if it was easier then it should have been the recommended way. a dyslexic man walks into a bra. .
