stripping aluminum

Q: joseph myers wrote on my 2000. i just turn the key to run and the pump will run for about 30 seconds i do it every time i change the fuel filter. thats what i always thought and as a matter of fact on page 155 of my owners manual it states that turning the ignition on will activate the pump for 25 seconds. however here is a section tsb 14-002-03 http//dodgeram.info/tsb/2003/14-002-03.htm for 1998-2002 models that states differently. the following procedure is to aid in evaluating the low-pressure fuel system performance in the absence of fault codes. 1. inspect all fuel lines including chassis for kinks and leaks. repair prior to proceeding. 2. battery voltage must be greater than 11.5 volts. if not charge batteries as required. 3. remove the rubber fuel hose from the outlet side of the fuel filter fig 1. 4. attach a 915 mm 36 in. clear hose to the fuel filter outlet line fig. 1. do not use the pressure test fitting. 5. route the hose to a clean empty 3.8 liter 1 gallon approved diesel fuel container. 6. purge all air from the lines by bumping the starter to activate the transfer pump transfer pump should run for 26 seconds. note the transfer pump will run less than 2 seconds varies with ecu calibration when the ignition key is first turned to on. when the starter is bumped do not allow the engine to start the transfer pump will run 25 seconds. if the engine has been running the ignition key must be cycled to allow the transfer pump to run. obviously one of them is wrong maybe mike knows which. jerry .

wasnt naval jell was it iirc that stuff would move everything. nah it was called something stuff and was sold right next to purple stuff. i dont expect to find it anymore because it was so powerful but anything that would do a comparable job would be great. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

i remember that stuff. iirc it was sold as an aluminum non painted rim cleaner. that stuff worked great. yup! thats the stuff. it worked great but i found out the hard way once what happens when you leave it on to long. luckily it wasnt on my wheels. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

many years ago there used to be a really strong spray on product that you rinsed off 60 seconds later and the oxidation would be gone leaving you with beautiful polished aluminum. this stuff would start to eat a hole if left on more than 60 seconds but if you followed the instructions properly it did a great job. i was given an aluminum tool box that i plan on using but its oxidized really bad. i went to look for this stuff was made by the same people who make purple stuff and couldnt find it. im wondering if there is anything on the market today that you can spray on/rinse off to remove oxidation i dont want to break out the aluminum polish which will take 2 days checker plate. thanks -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

well when the hose blew off & you were pulling this heavy load it caused your egtsexhaust gas temps to skyrocket i know this happened to mebut i have guages to monitor this & could only press the throttle down about 25% b4 it got hot. so you probably have something like burnt piston or 2 or stuck rings & galled up cyl walls. you might want to go here & ask for a second opinion;http//www.turbodieselregister.com/ .

ppg makes a dx533 aluminum cleaner... the active ingredient is phosphoric acid. ive used other products to clean aluminum mag wheels etc that were also based on phosphoric acid. naval jelly is concentrated phosphoric acid. bryan many years ago there used to be a really strong spray on product that you rinsed off 60 seconds later and the oxidation would be gone leaving you with beautiful polished aluminum. this stuff would start to eat a hole if left on more than 60 seconds but if you followed the instructions properly it did a great job. i was given an aluminum tool box that i plan on using but its oxidized really bad. i went to look for this stuff was made by the same people who make purple stuff and couldnt find it. im wondering if there is anything on the market today that you can spray on/rinse off to remove oxidation i dont want to break out the aluminum polish which will take 2 days checker plate. thanks -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

dont forget to do the inside. my tool box turns everything i put in it grey from the oxidation. looking at using a brush on truck bed liner on the inside of mine. figure it might keep stuff from sliding in addition to keeping it clean. gary carter | thanks for all the suggestions. i think im just going to hit it with | rustoleum gloss back though so that i dont have to worry about keeping it | polished. | | | -- | nathan w. collier | http//7slotgrille.com | http//utilityoffroad.com | | | .

i know the product that you are looking for & it is still on the market for retail use. i use it to remove oxidation on aluminum pontoons with great results. i have found that if mixed to the ratio of 1 quart per gallon it works quite fast if rinsed within a minute or so. the product in question is made by zep mfg. & is called zepalume note be quite careful with this product & use heavy rubber gloves always follow the directions on the label pertaining to contamination of ground water etc. i hope this helps. research this product on the web for further information & contacts for purchase .
