Q: has it been consuming oil ever since the rebuild or is it a recent problem psion wrote it has been consuming oil since the rebuild and before the rebuild too. it was worst prior to the rebuild a couple of the plugs would foul over time. when i pulled the plugs i was sure i would see oil residue on a plug or two but nothing are you using synthetic oil .

that is way too much to tow safely with a half ton truck. it has more to do with stability than power and/or/braking. if it starts whipping or swaying youll have your hands full for sure! i acquired girlfriend bought a 32 stinger/twin 454s on a triple axle trailer. dealer said my 1/2 ton 5.9l 4x4 autotrans/gas would pull it for occasional weekend trips. now the trick part i have replaced the axles with units pulled from a 1 ton diesel so i have heavier components and brakes. also running 36 tires with 410 gears. tranny went out at 52000 and was rebuilt and beefed up somewhat. i also added a tranny cooler in the process. truck came with the towing package from the dealer. trailer has hydraulic inertial brakes so it supposedly stops well on its own. should i expect any problems any tips on towing safely top speed leave out of od etc i wont be going more than 30 miles or so to drop in water. .

cigarski wrote im about to take in the dak for its ball joint recall and some other work. i figure that this will be a good time to get a new set of tires. i currently have a set of bfg all-terrain t/a kos 31x10.50-15. these have served me well but im looking for a quieter non a/t tire as a replacement. did alot of off-roading for a couple of years with the truck so these tires made sense. all highway now with 6-10 hour drives on occasion. im considering the michelin ltx m/s. anyone here have any experience with these any other suggestions. i still need decent snow traction for the ski season in ny/vt. i live in jersey so the a/ts are kind of overkill. thanks wayne ----- 2000 dak qc 4x4 4.7 auto w/towing packageheavy duty services group and tire a wheel upgrade to 31x10.50-15. got the michelin m/s last fall put on 2500. been satisfied so far with my new tires. were ok on snow and ice this winter. dale .

safe bet anyways a tri axle trailer is way too much for a half ton truck he would be dam lucky if it weighted 15000 lbs. properly closer to 20000 lb mark loaded if not more. on mon 02 may 2005 073356 gmt rm rm@blah.blah wrote i acquired girlfriend bought a 32 stinger/twin 454s on a triple axle trailer. dealer said my 1/2 ton 5.9l 4x4 autotrans/gas would pull it for occasional weekend trips. now the trick part i have replaced the axles with units pulled from a 1 ton diesel so i have heavier components and brakes. also running 36 tires with 410 gears. tranny went out at 52000 and was rebuilt and beefed up somewhat. i also added a tranny cooler in the process. truck came with the towing package from the dealer. trailer has hydraulic inertial brakes so it supposedly stops well on its own. should i expect any problems any tips on towing safely top speed leave out of od etc i wont be going more than 30 miles or so to drop in water. big missing item of info... how much does the boat/trailer/gear combo weigh my guess would be around 15000 ... probably too much weight for a half ton. fred .

new or rebuilt ones cost an arm and a leg. the rebuild kit is only 9.99.. can this be done by an amature john yep - done it before... pretty simple. you can do it with the gear still bolted into the truck but its a whole lot easier if you can remove it. either way youll need a pitman arm puller to remove the pitman arm after removing the big pitman arm nut. from here if you just disconnect the two hoses let them drain into a bucket or suitable clean container - you can re-use the fluid if it doesnt get dirty then unbolt the gear from the frame. as for the work itself i forget the exact steps been a while since i disassembled mine but aside from a snap ring everything comes right out you can remove the sector shaft by removing the four bolts around the perimeter of the cover. do not touch the adjuster nut in the middle. now - if the gear was leaking just because the seal went bad then the $10 kit will fix it. if it started leaking because the roller bearing wore and allowed the sector shaft to flex side-to-side then youll need to replace the roller bearing and i dont think this is included in the $10 rebuild kit. .

i know the truck isnt heavy duty but can a 8 plow be used on this = truck to plow driveways im not talking about doing big parking lots just = residential driveways. this truck has the hemi in it & a manual 4x4 shift lever = none of this automatic stuff that fails. it also has limited slip rear end & the= 20 wheels. 1997 sfa 60920 199819992000200120022003 ama 602785 due to e-mail spamming bots my reply address is incorrect. add a - between mr and wizard this is what we have to do to prevent spamming sucks doesnt it .

sounds like an engine temp sensor telling the computer that the engine is warm when it isnt. i have a 03 durango with 19000 miles about a month ago it started hesitating and backfiring when cold. dealer first said it did not exist now says my valves had carbon on them. the dealer cleaned them but it is still having the same issue. the dealer says they have many of these and i think i am getting the run around with the valve decarbonizing at 19000 miles. is anyone else having the problem. no computer codes .

if it is a v6 then it sorta needs the stick to be able to move at all. i would leave it the way it is and if you dont already own it stay away from it because even with a gold plated automatic you will have a hell of a time trying to sell it with that v6. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving it probably why the dealer having a hard time selling. its a v6 non 4x4. carolina watercraft works wrote only harder if its a 1500. thats one reason i got the 2500 with manual tranny. someone looking at a 2500 will most likely be using it to tow or to work in some fashion and will appreciate the manual over the auto. but on the 1500 a manual is suicide when it comes time to sell it. .
