stall in reverse

Q: picked up a 96 2500 with cummins/auto tranny/4x4. the tranny is new and seems to drive ok in forward. if i put it in reverse and turn the steering wheel it dies. if i put it reverse and give it fuel anything above idle it dies. any idea whats doing this duncan .
