that is totally normal for that model.something about the system using less engine power during hard accleration. i just aquired a 98 dodge conversion ram van 1500 v-6 3 speed auto 106k the air cond will quit when accelerating by that i mean the cold air will start to come out the defrost ducts instead of the dash ducts .

my friend has talked his dad into giving me there old 89 daktoa except it has a transmission problem and idk what kinda transmission it is i was wondering if sumoen could give me the name or sumwere i could find out. all i need is the torque converter becasue its locked up but without tranny name its hard to find right converter .

bigironram wrote bigironram wrote i have a 1994 dodge full size van with a 318 engine and an a518 4 speed with overdrive tranny. ive had this van for a few years and it has leaked fluid and made a little noise since i purchased it. i made the mistake of putting some transmission additive for high mileage transmissions. a few days later the tranny would not work. i dropped the pan changed the fluid and filter adjusted the bands as per manual. i drove it around 10 miles and the tranny started sounding like metal grinding very loud. i immediately took it out of overdrive and the noise went away. ive drove the van without overdrive for several weeks. recently i backed off the kick-down band adjustment 1/2 turn. i test drove the van and it shifted smoother but the overdrive still made a lot of noise. i also looked at the electrical wiring to see if anything looked loose. i let the van sit a few hours and the tranny would not shift out of 1st gear. any idea as to where i need to look first i also have a 1989 tranny i think its a a998/99 that i would like to use temporary while i work on the original. what problems will i encounter outside of finding a drive shaft that will fit the transmission mount wont work with the older one. hopfully youve got a crossmember and mount from a three speed truck thanks bigironram! i do have the transmission crossmember and mount. i also have the complete 1989 van to rob parts from. my concern is the wiring. is there any wiring connection differences between the two trannys that could cause a problem again i appreciate your response! i think youre good to go! theres only one electrical connection to worry about a three pin connector that controls overdrive and lockup just tie it up out of the way. the computer will set a code 37 if memory serves its not a problem even the v-6 three speed vans set that one. i hope the van also has the yoke on the driveshaft the a-500 uses a different one than the a-9xx trannys. itl be a few weeks before i pull out the original tranny. before i do i wouldl like to know how to verify operation of the solenoids. i know i need to drop the pan but where do i go from there .
