removing the radio ('02 Durango)

From : j

Q: the plastic bezel around the radio speedo pulls off with just fingers. only 2 screws in radio. i have a radio/cd/tape player to sell its infinity asking $150 + ship. out of 97 dakota. dick i want to get satellite radio for my car not until end of december beginning of january. anyway i have an 02 durango with the infinity system and when i do get satellite i was looking into wiring the sat radio directly to the back of the durango radio with this http//www.crutchfield.com/s-ja4rzj4k2td/cgi-bin/prodview.aspg=251550&i=60714110. first can this be done if so second how would i go about removing the radio to get to the back of it if its something i can do easily without damaging anything id rather do it. ive tried looking for one of those chilton manuals in local bookstores to see if they have anything about radios in them. i couldnt find any copies in the bookstores. there is one at a library in a town not too far away but i just havent gotten up there yet. thanks for any help. j .

well i called dot and epa. lol admin@snoman.com writes if someone is that hard up to drive their oil burner that they want to try to cheat with heating oil they need to sell it and get a gas truck. you supplier can get in trouble too if he sells you heating oil that is used as motor fuel. it is very easy to determine is heating oil is in tank it takes but a few seconds. your chances of getting caught are in direct proportion to the number of people who know or suspect that youre doing it. its been said that two people can keep a secret as long as one of them is dead. this is the exact same way many satellite and cable tv pirates got caught. i certainly wouldnt mention it to anyone not even your spouse. your home heating oil supplier -will- notice the markedly increased consumption. suddenly 2 people know. see above about keeping a secret. imo the risk and penalty for getting caught far outweighs any possible benefit. the crime is called motorfuel tax fraud and its serious. .

mind you i am not saying that the wireless fm mod is great just better then the hard line. if you want true digital and all that you have to go with a sat ready radio and the tuner for it. depending on what sat system you are looking at xm or sirius both make a unit with an internal wireless fm mod. so wait... a hard-wired fm modulator will sound like crap but the built-in wireless modulator wont if you go xm use the roady 2. http//www.crutchfield.com/s-qheugnlqbcj/cgi-bin/prodview.aspg=247350&i=700sa10109 you can get these for $50 from http//www.xmradio.com because theyre being phased out in favor of the roady xt. the xt is smaller and imo has a better mounting system if youre going to be moving it from auto to home. its got a cradle whereas the roady2 has two or three individual wires that have to be plugged/unplugged. tom basic run-of-the-mill sat radio owner myself inc. readington nj .

first yes this can be done. however! using that type of fm modulator is going to make your newly purchased sat radio system sound well to be blunt like ass. depending on what sat system you are looking at xm or sirius both make a unit with an internal wireless fm mod. all you have to do is plug in the cig lighter power cord run the antenna and turn it on. no need to remove the radio or anything. if you go xm use the roady 2. http//www.crutchfield.com/s-qheugnlqbcj/cgi-bin/prodview.aspg=247350&i=700sa10109 if sirius use one of the xact units such as http//www.crutchfield.com/s-qheugnlqbcj/cgi-bin/prodview.aspg=247350&i=612xtr3ck larry senior installer autosound fx sierra vista az i want to get satellite radio for my car not until end of december beginning of january. anyway i have an 02 durango with the infinity system and when i do get satellite i was looking into wiring the sat radio directly to the back of the durango radio with this http//www.crutchfield.com/s-ja4rzj4k2td/cgi-bin/prodview.aspg=251550&i=60714110. first can this be done if so second how would i go about removing the radio to get to the back of it if its something i can do easily without damaging anything id rather do it. ive tried looking for one of those chilton manuals in local bookstores to see if they have anything about radios in them. i couldnt find any copies in the bookstores. there is one at a library in a town not too far away but i just havent gotten up there yet. thanks for any help. j .

im considering purchasing this reader initially for diagnostics and reset on a 1996 b3500 dodge van http//www.partsamerica.com/codereaders.aspx if you have personal experience using this device please comment on your assesment of its utility and quality. thanks martin .

aware of that would allow you to reset codes and then take it immediately to a state inspection that monitors the computer as part of the emissions test since they are looking for stored codes and test results. while the reader you are looking at can reset the codes without setting code 12 it will also cause the computer to restart these tests and that is what the state inspection is looking for. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving . 222 307251 1130335990.897796.226570@g43g2000cwa.googlegroups.com tom lawrence wrote if you have personal experience using this device please comment on your assesment of its utility and quality. its a code reader... you plug it in it displays codes. not much to comment on. however - be sure your 96 van really is obd-ii - as the law required all vehicles manufactured after 1-1-96 to be obd-ii compliant. production for the 96 model year started in sept. or so of 95. ive seen other 96 vehicles that were still obd-i. how can i determine for certain that the van is obd-ii is there a distinctive diagnostic-connector shape link to a picture or perhaps the number of pins can be counted to determine obd-ii vs obd-i it was indeed manufactured in 1995 so this is something i need to figure out. .

so next time all you self proclaimed experts deal with it. okay... deep breath time... how is a wireless transmitter less susceptible to interference and signal loss than something thats wired directly that just seems counter-intuitive. theyre both doing fm modulation right its just that one is directly connected to the radios antenna input and the other transmits through the air to the same antenna input. how could a direct connection produce worse signal quality than a wireless connection .

is it possible that the pump may be going again and the odor is coming in from under the hood certainly possible... you may be pulling air in from the fresh air vents. run the heater in recirc mode and see if you still smell it. if you do then its most likely a leaking heater core. has the heater core been an issue not especially but some do go bad. how much can i expect to pay to have the heater core replaced by the local dealer unfortunately lots... probably upwards of $1000. youre looking at an evac/recharge of the a/c the cost of the core itself dealership gets about $150 for these and probably around 5 hours labor as the entire instrument panel needs to be removed. id try a radiator stop-leak product first especially if its a small leak and since you dont see any coolant dripping out of the floor vents it probably is. .
