question about tranny noise

From : timbertoes

Q: looking at a 2003 dakota. 20k miles. looks good overall but here is a tranny noise question for you guys idling in neutral. brake applied. shift to either drive or reverse. a noise is heard for 2-3 seconds. as though the transfer of tranny fluids paths were making a noise. no lurching. no metallic clunks or clangs just a whizzing noise. normal or beware 4.7 motor. od auto tranny i intend to try this on several other of the used dakotas on the lot. thanks much am wanting to get back into dodge after a stint with my sonoma ; .
