i have an 03 dakota with the factory six disk changer. does the factory unit have an auxiliary input i had xm radio in the past but got rid of it because of fm station interference from time to time. i want to get another unit sirius this time but i want a direct connect so i dont have to worry about the fm stations. is there an auxiliary or another option for satellite radio without fm modulation or swapping out the factory unit .

hi all! been wondering lately about replacement of the front rotors on my 99 ctd 2500 rwd. is there a measurement or rule of thumb used by brake shops on when the rotors need to be replaced or is it strictly appearance out of true criteria thats used also how many times can the rotors be resurfaced brake rotors should never be resurfaced it just takes the life out of them. if they are warped or gouged then just replace them otherwise they should be good to go. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

because power for the tcc on-off solenoid pre-01 goes thru the nc contacts on the switch gm trucks if the witch is bad open at rest the tcc cannot come on it usually flags an additional code of the p-188x variety which signals an electrical problem in the tc solenoid circuit....but it will always flag an 1870 because the ecm is looking for 11 in 3rd with tc commanded on why would a brake switch flag a slipping trans code -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving the ce light will come on any time the ecm sees an incorrect ratio for the proper circumstances so any tcc problem that prevented a 11 in 3rd with tc locked or whatever ratio the od in the vehicle has with tc locked will set it gm has the infamous p-1870 which simply means transmission component slipping it can be anything from a bad brake switch to an internal problem in any of 4 areas forward pack 3-4 pack band or tc for the 4l60e only if it was an electrical problem like the wires loose or burnt or shorted. mechanical problem with the tc clutch itself will not usually do it. if the auto trans. torque converter clutch was not locking would the check engine light illuminate and an error code be set thanks. .

hi! got this 1 ton 94 dodge van - have it running pretty well now but if auto tranny isnt within 1 pint of top overdrive wont kick in using much more gas. even when full it takes 1/2 hour for overdrive to work. even when hot and stopping for gas you then need to wait another 1/2 hour for overdrive to kick in ! any help would be appreciated. thanx bob bobtheatre@aol.com .

a few months ago i put 285 tires in place of the 265s on my 99 ram 1500 4x4. since then the gas mileage has gotten about 2 mpg worse i corrected for the difference in diameter and just today the trans temp light came while i was driving level road no additional loads. the transmission has never overheated before. ive had no check engine events. anybody else had a similar problem thanks. .

are there instructions on how to do this you mean setting the controller for the empty trailer sure... its just a wheel that dials in the initial amperage that goes out to the brakes. you play around with that making stops with the trailer so that you get good braking but dont lock up the trailer axles. once you find the optimum setting write it down it will be a decimal value on the display - this changes with the wheel. the instructions that come with the controller explain this a lot better of course .

i have a 1999 4 wheel drive dodge ram quad cab. i need to know if anybody can tell me how to take out front u joint on drivers side can i just take off rotor and hub nut and pull straight out or what. thank you. essentially yes. thats assuming everything wants to come apart which it rarely does. you need to break the big axle nut loose after removing the cotter pin remove the hub mounting bolts from the back side of the knuckle three bolts on a 1500 4 bolts on a 2500/3500. remove the caliper then remove the hub/rotor assembly or if its a 1500 slide the rotor off the hub from the knuckle. then youll be able to pull the axle straight out carefully so as not to damage the oil sel inside the axle remove and replace the u-joint then put it back together. the hubs are frequently stuck and dont want to come out. using just a puller can sometimes separate the hub in two not good. i use a combination of a puller and a big hammer to pound on the mounting bolts back them off slightly to create a gap between the bolt head and knuckle and push the hub off the knuckle. others back off the bolts and use a socket/extension to wedge between the bolt and the frame and use the power steering to press the hub. take your pick... .

check your rear diff there should be a tag on the bolts if so good bet it is anti-slip. -- coasty semper paratus always ready | the window sticker says semi floating rear 9 1/4 inch heavy duty rear | axle. | its on a 1997 ram maxi van 3500. | | does this require the posi lube additive from dodge | | thanks. | .

i love the boost feature on mine. i set it for the empty trailer then use the boost to quickly adjust to the condition of the trailer are there instructions on how to do this -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

once working however the jordan seems to be the choice of most people and the best of the two. which would be easier for my wife to use -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

From : nathan w collier

this is affected by the potholes up- or down-slope of the road bouncing of the trailer movement of the horses etc. i thought that was problematic on pendulum type controllers the jordan is actuated by a cable to the brake pedal arm and applies braking proportional to your foot pressure on the brake pedal. its much smoother and more predictable and much more comfortable for the passengers. at just over $100 its no big deal to try both. i suppose i could always ebay whichever one i dont use. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

christopher thompson wrote ok in my owners manual it describes the 3000 mile service interval as severe driving condition. this would include as stated in the owners manual short trips city driving condition high ambient temp ect. so my suggestion go by the owners manual. i typically subscribe to the 3000 mile or 3 month schedule of changing the oil on my durango. however since my last oil change on feb. 2nd of this year ive only driven 2000 miles. most of those miles have come in the form of small trips. should i be looking to get another change soon or can i wait some more thanks. j /font there is no harm in change oil often and 6 months is a bit to long to leave oil in a modern truck engine regardless of mileage with seasonal changes. -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-oil-change-ftopict121020.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=591030 .

i really wanted to order the brake smart brake controller from http//brakesmart.net but several days after emailing them i got a response saying that if i ordered now i could possibly get a unit within 6-8 weeks which is unacceptable. im currently considering two readily available units and would like feedback on both. 1- prodigy http//www.tekonsha.com/prodig.html it comes highly recommended from many in this group. i like to boost feature and feel that unless its over-rated marketing fluff it would be a good feature to have. 2- jordan http//jordanbrake.com i like that it reads in amps and not volts tells you if the brakes are actually working. both look great in their websites but id like informed opinions on both before i buy. thanks! -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com ive used all of them over my 54 years on this planet. the prodigy gets my vote. its easy to install and setup practically nothing to do anyways and let her rip...for a hundred and twenty bucks its hard to go wrong. amen on the prod

j20 someday as itis now retired to sitting in barn though it still runs well. . would that be the old j20 with the 401 360 or 304. coupled to the turbo400 auto tranny in front of a the original quadratrac transfer case great transfer case good tranny. didnt think much of the engines put a buick in mine today would probably go caddy power. main harness has a bad habit of coming unclipped from its mountings and dropping down on the wiper arm linkage under the dash makes for a great let the smoke out experience. long wheel base gave it the best ride of any 3/4 4x4 on the road but center hangs easy. best looking truck too. weak upper shock mounts in the front. transfer case had what amounted to a limited slip unit in it it would shift the power to the axle with the most traction. took the fun out of driving it sometimes didnt slide turns very well front axle would kick in and she would straighten out. some used motorola charging systems voltage regulators junk. she was a 77 camper special harvest gold and oxford white with wood grain trim. i traded a 69 chevy c10 short bed step side 327 saginaw super t-10 4 spd for her. still kick my self for that one but had to have a 4x4 to go play on ft hood on the week-ends when i didnt have the duty. whitelightning .

i use the prodigy................it is my first time using a braking controller and i relied on the advice of this group in making my choice. i ordered mine thru the outfit in texas as they included a free wiring harness in the price. i have on 04 2500 ho cummins towing a 18 7500 lb gross dual axle flatbed with a tractor and love the feel of the trailer braking as well as being able to control the trailer separate from the truck. it was installed and setup in about 45 minutes or less................... my 2 cents i really wanted to order the brake smart brake controller from http//brakesmart.net but several days after emailing them i got a response saying that if i ordered now i could possibly get a unit within 6-8 weeks which is unacceptable. im currently considering two readily available units and would like feedback on both. 1- prodigy http//www.tekonsha.com/prodig.html it comes highly recommended from many in this group. i like to boost feature and feel that unless its over-rated marketing fluff it would be a good feature to have. 2- jordan http//jordanbrake.com i like that it reads in amps and not volts tells you if the brakes are actually working. both look great in their websites but id like informed opinions on both before i buy. thanks! -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .
