overdrive kicking in too soon on 02 ram 1500 ?
From : chris
Q: i posted a question about this and nobody answered so i will try to rephrase it. around 40-50 mph and 1500 rpm it feeels like the vehicle is in too high of a gear. just like if you were in too high of a gear on a motorcycle. these are the only speeds this happens at. any of you 02 ram owners notice this. if i turn the overdrive off around those speeds it seems fine. this must be an error on the engineers part. i doubt they intended to build the truck like this. it makes no sense. thinking about getting a titan. before the bashing comes i plan to keep my vehicles forever. i am not happy with this truck. the shifting is not smooth. i drive slow with a light foot. i notice big time jerking when the truck shifts sometimes but not in every gear. i think it is a crappy transmission. and i dont care what you guys say dodge is known for a bad transmission. i know a mechanic that said he sees dodge transmission repairs like he sees his wanker. .

i had a 98 1500 4x4 5.9 265 tires 3.55 rear. 2000 rpm was 74. couldnt pull any kind of hill especially in hot weather with ac on. you are right the airheads that designed these have never had to live in a truck. theyll never learn. it aint going to get better. live with it or trade it for something with an engine/rear end combo that can hold and maybe gain a little speed in overdrive while climbing a hill. mark .

had my 47re auto reprogramed at the dealer for no caust under warrenty. i had complained about the no downshift. it will still shift into overdrive lockup converter at 45-50 under light loads but if you mash it it will stay in 3rd way into the 70+ in my diesel. with your gas job i am sure it will probably go to the red line if you wanted. also now when i stomp on it at 65 it will go into 3rd lockup and give me some damn good power. .
