oil pressure rapid drops/rise

From : bks

Q: i have a 2001 dakota 35k miles quad. i noticed today that the oil pressure stays put at about 2/3 the gauge but every time i stopped it rapidly fell. 4 seconds to half 4 more seconds to 1/3 where it leveled off. temp gauge stays constant around 1/3 where its always been. i never noticed before. is this normal just had an oil change 300+ miles ago. they did a sloppy job putting the filter back on and it was dripping the first night in the driveway three small spots but once i wiped it it stayed clean no more drips. thoughts .

one more thing---it is not burning oil and the gauge has not dropped below 1/3---there is pressure. i have a 2001 dakota 35k miles quad. i noticed today that the oil pressure stays put at about 2/3 the gauge but every time i stopped it rapidly fell. 4 seconds to half 4 more seconds to 1/3 where it leveled off. temp gauge stays constant around 1/3 where its always been. i never noticed before. is this normal just had an oil change 300+ miles ago. they did a sloppy job putting the filter back on and it was dripping the first night in the driveway three small spots but once i wiped it it stayed clean no more drips. thoughts .

my 2001 dakota 3.9l just turned 40000 miles has done the same thing since i bought it 2 years ago. hot idle oil pressure is about 1/3 of the gauge at 50mph in overdrive runs just under 2/3 with the engine at normal temperature. i have a 2001 dakota 35k miles quad. i noticed today that the oil pressure stays put at about 2/3 the gauge but every time i stopped it rapidly fell. 4 seconds to half 4 more seconds to 1/3 where it leveled off. temp gauge stays constant around 1/3 where its always been. i never noticed before. is this normal just had an oil change 300+ miles ago. they did a sloppy job putting the filter back on and it was dripping the first night in the driveway three small spots but once i wiped it it stayed clean no more drips. thoughts .

i have the 4.7. while my 4.7 reading doesnt vary my 74 trans am drops about 25 psi at an idle when warm. but it always has. if you are certain your truck didnt do this before the oil change go ahead and eliminate the obvious. do an oil change being sure you get a good filter and the correct viscosity of oil. .
