no air out of vent
From : john jacob
Q: 1996 dodge 2500 pickup cummins. last week my heat/ac air selector stopped working on the dash board outlets. switching the outlet selector to defroster causes the air to blow out of the defroster outlets. switching to heat causes the air to blow out of the bottom heat outlets. and the re-circulate mode opens the return air door. however the dash vents when selected blow no air. i would like to have some idea where to start looking before i tear into the dash board. any ideas john .

however the dash vents when selected blow no air. i would like to have some idea where to start looking before i tear into the dash board. sounds like a vacuum problem inside the hvac module itself vacuum is definately coming into the unit since you can select floor vents. remove the dash bezel two screws behind the cupholder another two inside the ashtray then remove the hvac control module 4 screws i believe. theres two electrical connectors one for the fan speed switch the other for the trans temp. light if you have an auto. theres also a cable that controls the blend air door. finally theres the vacuum connector. its held on with two speednuts. remove these remove the vacuum connector and see if theres any buildup of grease they lubricate the mechanism with lightweight grease or other gunk that could plug any of the lines. youll see when you open it up but turning the control knob slides a block along a track which selectively covers/uncovers various vacuum ports which controls the diverter door. im guessing somethings either gunked up in there or possibly with one of the lines between the control module and the diverter door itself. if you have a hand-held vacuum pump and can rig up the right fittings you could apply vacuum to each of the lines and see what results you get with the vents. that should help in tracking down the problem. .

few late 80s to about 91 model 1/2 ton dodge trucksthe older style not the kenworth 94 look anyway; are these decent trucks does the 4x4 work well those were trucks in every sense of the word. about as durable as an anvil simple to maintain i own a 92 w250 360 nv4500 5 speed np241 with 4.10 gears. the drive line is as tough as nails. the body is crap. doors are a problem and so is the bed. i had a 90 d150 same problems with the doors but the bed survived. i feel the 92 rides so rough its killing the body. and me im looking for a different truck and will sell this one reasonably. 94+k miles its white has very good tires and runs perfect. this truck is all original i just changed the fan belts for the first time a few weeks ago. as red said its easy to maintain. my 90 had the paint problem when i sold it about 40% of it was gray. really kills the resale value. the 90 had a very good limited slip rear axle. compared to a ford or gm it was a miracle al in tucson .
