nathan w. collier wrote it sux that if ordered new the option is only $285.00. oh well... keep in mind that the anti-slip factory option is not positive posi traction. positive traction refers to a locker and limited slip is not the same as a locker. the new power wagon has real lockers anything less is only limited slip and while its a bit better than an open differential its still only limited slip. in my limited experience limited slip requires one wheel to actually break loose with a significant amount of torque before the posi action kicks in... with age this torque level increases. what this means to you is that youre already spinning and digging one wheel before the other decides to do anything and when it does the action is pretty violent promoting wheelspin on both sides... in other words - its great for getting loose big roostertails and otherwise acting like a jackass but not the best thing for getting across rough stuff... a posi on the other hand has handling issues on wet pavement and other limited traction street situations. this is the 00s theres absolutely no reason to get stuck having to go this route... the other option is a locker. personally i find these the best - normally its an open differential on the street but with the flip of a switch you can lock the rear axle eliminating the chance of one wheel spinning before the other and in my experience i have absolutely no scientific evidence to back this up more than doubles your effective power transfer to the ground before wheelspin... warning do not use in high-traction situations youll wind up your axle just like youll break a 4x4 by using it on pavement... youll probably also want to disable it during sharp manuvers offroad as it can drag you around a bit... remember you can re-enable it at the touch of a button. if you want to get through practically anything limited by your ride height/power/driveline strength you can set up front and rear lockers - basically all the wheels are forced to spin at the same speed... currently your 4x4 can get 100% hung up with one front and one rear tire in the air - youll be completely unable to move the truck... with lockers youd still have 2 tires on the ground with 100% smooth torque delivery to them with a much higher chance of actually moving your truck than a single limited slip... just dont try to turn under those conditions - you *will* break something... i hope that made some sense - its far past my bedtime. ; js .

i replaced the vacuum harness on my sons jeep - cracked due to old age when i moved them around while working on the exhaust. i was surprised how reasonable the whole setup was from the dealer. iirc its just called a vacuum harness for the 4wd i finally had someone coming to buy my 01.5 cummins 4x4 quad cab http//utilityoffroad.com/dodge and he brought cash. we got in it to take a test drive and the 4x4 light kept blinking. scared of buying a lemon the buyer walked. - i get the truck back home and start looking and found that my damn dogs 5 month old austrailian shepherd breeder pairhad chewed up the black and red vacuum hoses that engage the front drive see http//7slotgrille.com/images/forumpics/fds.jpg for the picture. any idea what im looking at here how much for the oem replacement hoses can i just buy the hoses any reason why generic hose from an autoparts store wouldnt work what is the exact name of this part im beginning to think that fate is trying to tell me not to sell this truck! thanks -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

my first diesel !!! and i love it. thanks to those in the group for enlightening me on the whats and what-evers and helping me look for the right vehicle. of course it came with a few flaws....cruise not working - broken vac. line lh & rh electric mirrors way too sloppy crack in windshield washer reservoir etc. but those are taken care of now. its time to take on the bigger chores. it seems this truck has been struck by the infamous fuel level sensor problem. i took a look under the truck this morning and i can see a problem dropping the tank. there seems to be tighter than normal spaces to allow the tank to drop without any problems. i have read in other areas that most people raise the bed to access the tank. as i look at the problem now it seems if i remove the 4 bolts to the front and just leave the 2 rear bolts loose i should be able to put my hydraulic jack toward the front of the bed and lift it until i can get enough space to place some timber between the bed and frame rails to support the bed while i work on the tank. how much space between the bed and the tank will i need to remove the components is there a repair for the sunk in/saturated float or will i have to opt for a complete new sensor. ive been told that the plastic parts either wear or become out of alignment as to work properly. one person had a great idea in replacing the existing pivot pin with either a piece of aluminum or brass welding rod. i was going to tackle the job starting this morning but decided to wait until monday when most dodge/mopar shops will be open. i hate it when i have to wait for a dealership to open.... and i dont know if the local autozones krager etc. will carry such parts. i guess what im asking for is someone with experience having done this before for advice. if i have to rig a toilet float.... ill do that too.... wait a minute.... i was trying to be funny but that may be a solution.... the project starts monday morning.... any help before then would be appreciated... g. hedlund zip 92404 researching hedlund anderson nyrn jansson heggi laszlo tako taney luchinger toensing and haufle. .

i think maybe that was a metaphor. like you are owned! blow is a little bit of the convo. as funny as it sounds this is taking place in a sport bike ng ---- gm owns alison and gm will not sell to its competing factories. however there are aftermarket kits if you feel so inclined to convert to an alison. last i head ford owns cummins. but uses what navistar for their engines navstar is made by international. ford used to own a sizable share of international. i dont know about ford owning cummins never heard that one before. might have been hype i was talking with a ford salesman on where their engines came from and they mentioned they should be getting the cummins in their trucks when the cummins contract expired with chrysler because ford had bought the company. this was probably 90s something info...years later another salesman told me that ford wasnt going to put cummins in their trucks even though they owned the company. i figure the info on this subject is as good as the sources...i checked both fords and cummins websites and couldnt find any reference to each other....but cummins does mention that its largest single customer is daimler chrysler...which isnt a surprise. ---- .

hi there long time never have flushed yeah i know i waited too long!... i just got one of the motive products flushers and need to know what the sequence is for flushing the brake fluid on an abs-equipped d. im not a brake guru so i need some pointers on locations for the combination valve rear and front anti-lock valve bleed screws. a web location that has this would be nice. lastly what old fluid if any is left in the system are there any channels within the abs unit that might not get flushed im thinking there might be some fluid located in the unit that unless you exercise the abs you wont get it out. in other words after flushing do i need to go out and do some heavy stops to get the new fluid in the abs unit this is sort of like the classic drop the pan situation on an automatic transmission; the torque converter still has old fluid in it until you fire up... sorry to be so long-winded... tia kevin .
