keyless remote

Q: i just bought a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the remote is a trc with four buttons. the unlock and lock buttons work the door locks on the truck and the red light on the dash is constantly on no matter if the door locks are locked or not. it doesnt chrip or anything. the panic button on the remote doesnt do anything. i tried putting the key in the ignition turning to the on position hold the unlock button down for ten seconds and tthen press the lock button or vise versa. nothing changes. i also got in the truck locked the doors with the remote then opened the door without pressing the unlock on the remote. nothing happened so evidenttly i dont have any kind of alarm system. am i doing something wrong or is the so called alarm system sc rewed up would it be better to just get a new alarm system put in do the do it yourself work the problem with these is that it looks like you have a remote for unlocking and locking the doors. another remote to activate an alarm and another remote for starter interrupt. help .
