i have a 2001 4x4 dakota awd auto 4.7 reg cab. 35000 miles in case any of you have run across this and can shed some light. about 1000 miles ago i noticed a slight rumble noise at highway speeds then about 200 miles later a minor gear whine right at 60mph then after another 200 miles a howling at highway speeds and a 10-20 mph vibration similar to running over rumble strips. noise and vibration is noticed only on deceleration not noticeable accelerating and is related to road speed not engine speed driving in neutral has no effect. howl and low speed rumble quickly became more and more severe and i took it to dealer before the warrantee ran out. to my untrained ear it appeared to be in the front. first time in the dealer blames the tires put new michelins on with no effect im not surprised but who am i to complain they usually take the easy way out. wouldnt you know it before i returned it to the dealer the howl and rumble started to come and go it now appears to take 10 miles highway speed to start but it still can be severe. the vibration can be felt up through the chassis and into the petals and steering wheel. the dealer has been having some difficulty diagnosing it so far has replaced a rear drive shaft. any ideas out there . yos .

napa gold #2725. $19. same number for the 5.9 also -- steve ========= i have a 2002 ram 1500 with the 4.7. the air filter is just a plain vanilla filter no different from any other. its not any kind of unusual size or shape or material. yet its almost impossible to find one priced less than $35 - $50!!!! what is the deal here heck you cant even find one in any auto parts store or any place like walmart - you have to go to a dealer parts counter where its typically $49.95. i must be missing something here can anybody explain thanks ron m. .
