how to disable a Dodge RAM 1500 van

Q: i use an open trailer. power-out is handy for unloading anything that has no working brakes hulks etc. i bought a superwinch s3500 power in & out + freespooling which is enough for any rolling load you can haul in your trailer. i also purchased their cradle. its a combination carrying handle w/ a removable 2x2 stinger. i fabricated a receiver on the front of my trailer and can remove the winch for safe keeping or for use directly on the front and rear hitches of my pickup. summit racing had the best price. i use a 30 remote control and i understand they now have wireless remote controls. the stall current of a winch that size is around 175a but the normal working current is much less -- havent measured it. i run dual group 27 batteries with 1/0 welding cable in the high-current path including the battery ground leads. the 2-pin polarized connectors at the ends of the supply are rated at 150a -- you should be able to find them at an rv supplier. i also made some jumper cables also 1/0 welding cable so i can jump-start anything from the front or rear w/o lifting my hood. a *big* alternator is the last item i have on my list. that should give you some ideas. bryan bryan i have a superwinch s2500 in the garage. ill look for a way to mount it. the trailer has a large honda generator and it has a regular car type battery. i was going to power the winch with that battery because the generator keeps it charged. al .

what he did say was that hot air could apply the damn bearing.....which is impossible. in theory yes. in reality stranger things have happened. and....its evident that you dont know that... and also that you when yer reading...yer readn whut you want to...not whats written. sorta like you. i never stated air did not could not or even would not.....act as a spring....i would even then we agree. go far as to say that if it had been me... i would have preffered the phrase..... has a cushioning effect.....but thats jest me. while that is a better way to describe it it also describes what a spring does. i dont liketo compare unlikes...air is not a spring after all........as much as you may want it to be. unfortunately when refering to a gas you are referring to something that is elastic in nature acting like a spring. as such they act more alike than not. as far as your little rant on expansion and contraction.......theres nothing debatable about the fact that hot air will never apply a release bearing in the vehical that is under consideration in this thread..........unless yer willing to debate with idiots that think it can. prime example of your lack of reading. i stated it as a generality not a specific and noted that odd conditions could occur and thus every situation was different thus debatable. i know what im talking about.... you dont...... thats clear to me..... excep for the fact that we agree and you havent figured it out yet. but you dont believe me..... thats okay by me..... i think your statements are regarding a perfect design and conditions. typical of a mechanic that does only one thing and does it well. come out to where there are a fascinating array of designs and problems and your textbook world crumbles. but do yerself a favor......retreat now...while im still being kind and only calling you an idiot instead of proving that yer one. good luck. your wording and style have already proven what you are. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. .. .

1999 ram 1500 4x4 has been getting this cylinder 2 misfire for over 2 years now. it has went away a couple times for a brief period less than 2 weeks each time but coems back. after i ran 2 cans of cc cleaner and changing the plugs the code was back in minutes. i cleared all codes out after the cleaner and got about 5 miles before it came back. i have replaced the following cap rotor wires plugs and injector. i did the tsb about rerouting the wires as well. i am at a loss now. where is the sensor for this and could it be defective what about the fuel rail what exactly causes this code to trip i have 65k miles on the engine so i doubted it was buildup but worth a try. .

dennis wrote ive got a 97 dodge ctd and want to install a trans. temp. gauge. i ordered one from the local auto parts dealer who suggested a stewart warner gauge #82344 and a sending unit #280ee-f. the instructions read cut a hole in the instrument panel. theres no place to do that. so now im wondering if ive ordered the wrong gauge. chrysler told me they dont make them and id have to find an after market gauge. what brand of guage to others use and are they electric or mechanical. the stewart warner is electric. gauge panels are pretty easy to make of sheet metal wood plastic fiberglass etc - pretty much whatever you have lying around in the garage. use you imagination and put it anywhere you want. you dont need to monitor it all the time - like oil pressure - so it can even be low on the panel or down by the cup holder. as for type i generally prefer electrics but only because they are easier to install. the mechanicals have a 270* sweep and the electrics have a 90* sweep; although am is now making a limited series of electric gauges with a 270* sweep. bigger needle sweeps are easier to read at a glance. if its going to be down near the floor or on the other side of the dash use a larger 2 5/8 gauge with a red needle - they are very easy to read at a glance. autometer ha

if you bomb it you need to have a manual tranny or upgrade the auto. even with the manual trans the clutch can slip. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. on sat 22 oct 2005 115306 gmt tom lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net wrote cummins and redesigned the tranny yet again on 2005 models. re-designed the only change to the transmission that im aware of is an upgraded thrust washer under the front planetary to handle an exhaust brake.... that and some re-programming of the tcm for an ehanced tow/haul mode. my understanding too. the real redesign was in the middle of the 03 model year when they went to the 48re. there have been some minor upgrades since then the most major one being for the 06 model year where they changed the electronics by adding a larger computer so they they could add the programming necessary to allow a exhaust brake to be used on the 48re. the other have been the thrust washer i think they upgraded a couple of those adn the tow/haul mode as mentioned. the 48re as i have been told anyway is good for up to around 400 hp but when you chip it or bomb it above that level the tranny is not going to handle it. even then chipping it below 400 means that you have to use common sense when you drive it or the tranny is going to slip. that isnt a flaw the tranny is designed to handle the hp and torque that comes out of the factory. if you bomb it you need to have a manual tranny or upgrade the auto. i dont understand how this thing about a pos tranny keeps coming on the dodge. the 48re is a very good tranny. i have towed a lot with mine. cruising tdr i hear of very very few people with the 48re that have tranny problems with a stock truck. .

sounds like tranny is at end of life cycle and when it gets hots it slips more. or the filter is clogged and the fluid needs to be changed. dodge has had a lot of problem with automatic behind the cummins and redesigned the tranny yet again on 2005 models. no individuals have had problems due to lack of maintenance overloading yeah the tow rating does mean something and power uprates. the trans is the same trans that came out in 1988 as the a618 with more clutches more planetary gears in the gearsets and upgrades such as thrustwashers etc. after you get it rebuilt make sure it has a good sized aux cooler on it too. very good advice. that chip you have on there to boost power adds a lot of strain to tranny that it cannot really handle. few people consider the impact of these boosts on the tranny. which makes it the individuals problem not dodges. another thing if you have a 3.54 or 3.73 axle ratio the tranny will hold up a lot better with a 10 k boat on ramps with a 4.10 axle ratio. while true in stock configuration the 10000# boat is well within the tow rating for the at. as such the gears are of little concern. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. sounds like tranny is at end of life cycle and when it gets hots it slips more. dodge has had a lot of problem with automatic behind the cummins and redesigned the tranny yet again on 2005 models. after you get it rebuilt make sure it has a good sized aux cooler on it too. that chip you have on there to boost power adds a lot of strain to tranny that it cannot really handle. few people consider the impact of these boosts on the tranny. another thing if you have a 3.54 or 3.73 axle ratio the tranny will hold up a lot better with a 10 k boat on ramps with a 4.10 axle ratio. -- ----------------- www.thesnoman.com .
