hemi vs 4.7

Q: im guessing you either have the timing order fouled up on the dist cap or the timing chain incorrectly installed. i would carefully check how i have the wires in the cap and the proper firing order. pj i finally finished putting together my 1975 dodge powerwagon 360 after rebuilding the engine. its my first rebuild and i have learned alot by going through with it myself. to make the build interesting i did some performance at least i hope upgrades and now i cant light the fire. i ported and polished the heads match-ported the intake manifold and heads replaced the cam intake manifold and stock 2-barrel carburetor with edelbrock performer parts and added headers. i replaced the plugwires plugs rotor distributor cap and fuel filter. i installed the appropriate throttle linkage adapter that is required for chrysler engines on the edelbrock 600 cfm 4-barrel electric choke carb and i know im getting fuel because its visible and occasionally burns off in a mini flame in the carb bowl. i also checked to make sure that i had a spark at the plugs and that checked out ok. the starter turns and the carb is spraying fuel its just not igniting. this seems like a basic problem but its got me stumped. does the addition of these aftermarket parts require an upgrade in the coil ignition or distributor will severely out of sync timing cause this problem i made sure to align the rotor and distributor pointing at the #1 cylinder with it at tdc. i also installed a new timing chain set that had three options for timing and i installed it with no advance or retard. it seems to me like a spark problem but i havent been able to pinpoint it and the occasional flame in the carb bowl seems to indicate some sort of spark. any ideas for this rookie mechanic as you can probably imagine im antsy to get the truck up and runnin! thanks in advance for your help... lance carpenter .

i have a 97 and the pump went at about 90k completely corroded on the inside the dealer said they had never seen one do that. faulty casting is what i think the problem was........................ was crusin back from the shore yesterday and the engine temp starts climbing. pull over and antifreeze is pouring out around the fan. i refill the radiator/res and limp off the high way. a flat bed aaa shows up 2 hours later and takes me the 50 miles home. my question is is it normal to only get 60k miles from a water pump before this had a 94 s10 blazer and sold it @ 130k with the original water pump. anything i could have to done to avoid this thanks anthony .

thanks guys ill have to think about 1/2 vs 3/4 ton i was just at the dealers yesterday they just got a load of 04s in. its tough waiting till next spring brought the brochure home to work on my wife. thanks again guy and mike i used to have a street rod with a 392 hemi in it theres no substitute! 4.7 is way underpowered for anything larger than a dakota. go with the hemi. way underpowered gimme a fuckin break. my 4.7 qc does just fine. i dont tow 30 foot cattle trailers. i dont pull 30 foot fifth wheels. i dont race it. i use it the way it was meant to be used. as a half-ton pickup. if i needed more truck i would have bought more truck. but thats just me. if you want a hemi get a hemi. dont try to justify it just buy it. ===mike=== .

its not the clutch but the trans itself that is not up to the job. the standard trans in the 1500 is the same one used in the dakota. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving on thu 30 oct 2003 134308 -0800 hodad hd@juno.com wrote according to this site the 5.9 has 245hp at 4000 rpm and 330 f/lbs of torque at 3250 rpm the 4.7 has 235hp at 4800 rpm and 295 f/lbs of torque at 3200 rpm they have a good article on the development of the 4.7 engine. hd thanks... i was thinking that the 5.9 had a few more hp than the 5.2 but a lot more torque making it the better towing engine... assuming that the 5.2 and 4.7 are pretty close in specs the 360 doesnt seem like much more until you think of it in terms of the 5.9 having over 10% more torque.. btw ive read the article you linked in the past when we bought the truck in 02 and i was impressed with what they did to make a 4.7 have equal output with the 5.2 and a little better fuel efficiency.. speaking of towing according to the site www.dodge.com/towing the 4.7 with an automatic will tow about a ton more than the same engine with a manual. at least in a 2003 qc 1500 4x4 my guess is that most people will burn the clutch up trying to get a heavier load moving since there is no granny gear hd .

i had a 2000 dakota quad cab with the 4.7 and a 5 speed that i traded in on a 2003 ram 1500 quad cab with the 5.7 and the 5 speed auto. the vehicles were optioned basically the same both also had the limited slip differential. personally by the seat of my pants i feel the dakota was faster than the 5.7 auto that i have now. if you arent into the hemi think i think the 4.7 and a 5 speed manual would make a nice truck for the $2000 or so you would save over the hemi/auto. gas mileage would also be somewhat better too! on tue 28 oct 2003 203809 -0500 guy newton 84gn@sympatico.ca wrote hi guys im looking to buy a ram quad cab 4x2 in the spring is there a big difference in the 4.7 and the hemi the other thing is im a standard man love them gears! what i notice when i try to get price at the chryler web site it shows the hemi only available with the automatic in the 1500 series. only when you step up to the 2500 series is it available with standard shift.hemi owners how do you like the new engine any quirks i should know about. thanks in advance guy .

duhhhh....it takes two to collide...and either one of the two can avoid the accident...so they excluded anything that wasnt required to have day lights. you cant see the drl if the vehicle doesnt have one!! but hey its all a big conspiracy anyway right budd as i said i heard there wasnt any reduction. but are you sure those numbers werent manipulated i think they were manipulated since the word adjusted is in the quote. why were some collisions excluded dont pedestrians pedalcyclists motorcyclists truck drivers and bus drivers have the ability to see the drls thank you. -- budd cochran ive even heard that in canada where they were mandatory for years before the us there was no drop in accident rates. aurora h. et al. effectiveness of daytime running lights in canada. tp 12298 e. transport canada ottawa 1994. in a study in canada comparing 1990 model year vehicles required to have drls with 1989 vehicles a statistically significant 11-percent reduction in daytime multiple-vehicle crashes other than rear-end impacts was estimated. this estimate was adjusted to take into account the fact that about 29 percent of 1989 vehicles were fitted with drls. collisions involving pedestrians pedalcyclists motorcyclists and heavy trucks and buses were not included in this study. --- outgoing mail is certified virus free by avg and norton checked by avg anti-virus system http//www.grisoft.com. version 6.0.532 / virus database 326 - release date 10/27/2003 .
