gas gauge problems, Ram 1500

Q: well i know the sending units have been faulty on a lot of trucks. but in my particular case the actual float came off the float arm and read empty all the time....after it exhibited the problems you described. best i could deduce was the float was actually holding the arm up higher than the actually fuel level was. took it out reattached it and it operated normally for a while. im sure ill have to replace it eventually though. yours may be in the same boat as mine. either way youll have to remove it to find out. -- laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. dont you hate it when money beats out love steve k smk17@cornell.edu wrote aside from how fast it drops... my gas gauge after i fill the 25 gallon tank stays above f for about 120 miles. then in the next 280 miles the gauge drops like a lead balloon. why the heck cant dodge make a reliable gauge anyway a week ago the gas gauge was on 1/8 of a tank. i ran out of gas two miles later. what the is this normal or is my gauge messed up the first time i ran out of gas with this truck it was really on e. ram 1500 4x4 318. thanks steve its a 1999. .

durango 99 steering feels too loose with insufficient feedback. vehicle does not pull to left/right when driving and ive just had tires & upper ball joints replaced and wheels aligned. i suppose the looseness in steering is at least partially due to high tire profile 265/75/15 cooper discoverer but even so it feels too much. is this normal can the steering be tightened up possible faults in steering column i know there was an adjuster bolt on my isuzu trooper which helped with a similar problem. peter .

i need some help diagnosing a problem with my wifes 98 durango 4x4 with 360 and the selectable part time and full time transfer case. anyway when turning left or right or stopping or accelerating from a dead stop a popping noise is coming from what feels like the steering column. like up under the dash or on the inside of the firewall. also i found a clean gray or silver bolt that was broken in half under where the wife usually parks her durango. the bolt was around 1.5 inches and had a locking nut on it. i dont know for sure if this came off the durango but the popping noise appeared about the time i found that bolt. i have looked under the hood for a missing bolt and havent found one yet. i havent removed the plastic under carriage covers yet to see if that might reveal a hole somewhere in need of a bolt with locking nut. the steering wheel and column do not feel loose. the popping noise also seems more pronounced after the vehicle is heated up or it is above 60 degrees outside. the steering pump does have a little whining noise and i have had the wife turn the steering wheel left and right repeatedly while i watched the power steering and linkage move. no audible popping while that was going on either. im just before taking it to the dealer and letting them try to find the source of the popping. any help here would be much appreciated. ben took it by the local dodge dealer and they said the entire steering column needed to be replaced at a cost of $1200 just for the steering column i believe and then another $300 to install it i think. ill have to look at the form they gave me again. nah i dont think i can stand to glance it over again. the durango has under 90k miles on it and looks good and drives good except for that occasional popping sound. heck it dont even do it with me much but it does with my wife shirley muldowney. .
