foreign body in engine oil - advice please

Q: periodically yes... throwing a new filter in every 10k would be just a wee-bit excessive i consider it necessary even though im guilty of violating that rule. if youve got enough particles to clog the filter in 10k or even 30k miles youve got bigger problems to worry about. if you are lame enough to leave those particles in the trans for asecond 10k you will have bigger problems to worry about. its a $10 filter fer crying in a bucket just change th3e thiong and dont worry about starving the pump....... oh yeah you dont worry about that anyway. max spam filters why purify an undesired substance .

.. if youre that anal you might want to try an inline filter on the cooler lines. if nothing else it makes cleaning the cooler lines after a transmission failure a lot easier.. yes just great restrict cooler flow with an in-line filter using that line of logic one should remove the filter in the sump its restriction right .

on a stock 1976 440 what is the deck height what is the rod length i have an engine which has destroyed a piston twice !! i think the rings are breaking from too high a pressure. i have heard that the piston should be within 0.040 of the head quench or squish height mine is 0.171 at tdc comments deck height varies with the piston compression height. early high compression 440s had deck heights near .040 but the later low compression motors would be in the .150-.170 range. crank stroke is 3.75 rod length is 6.768 centerline of crank to block deck is 10.720 and the late piston compression height is 1.912. ..040 quench area is theoretically desireable but can only be attained on the late open chamber 440 head with a special piston having a raised quench dome that extends above the block deck. john .

you know how some oil comes with a thin foil under the cap well while changing the oil in i think i allowed a piece of that protective foil into the engine! it just went in as i was pouring the oil in. i saw a sliver flash go into the damn funnel and before i knew it it was too late to grab it! i couldnt see anything in there after looking around for a while with a flashlight. my thought is to just use the vehicle for a week or so and then change the filter/oil again. the filter should trap that should it after all that is why we use oil filters right should i worry about this guys depends on the surface area of the foil. if its small it might pass through the suction screen on the oil pickup pass through the pump and lodge in the filter. if the piece is larger it would probably just adhere to the screen on the oil pickup and never make it through the pump to the filter. of course this will cause a restriction at the pickup screen the severity of which will depend on the size of the piece. john .

yeah its about 1/2 of the damn foil. i have never taken apart the valve cover before. the most i have done is change the spark plugs. do you think this is something ill need to have done pull a the corresponding valve cover and remove the offending piece. assuming it is the entire little foil thing. i would say if it is larger than 1/4 of the foil cap that you should probably remove it as soon as you can. carl you know how some oil comes with a thin foil under the cap well while changing the oil in i think i allowed a piece of that protective foil into the engine! it just went in as i was pouring the oil in. i saw a sliver flash go into the damn funnel and before i knew it it was too late to grab it! i couldnt see anything in there after looking around for a while with a flashlight. my thought is to just use the vehicle for a week or so and then change the filter/oil again. the filter should trap that should it after all that is why we use oil filters right should i worry about this guys thanks! .

would someone be kind enough to tell me where i can locate the oil pressure sending sensor on a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9l i suspect that mine may be going bad because the oil light constantly comes on when i drop below 1000 rpm idling at a full stop and lately the pressure guage has been dropping to 0 while idling as well. as soon as i pop back above 1000 rpm the light goes off and the guage goes back to just a hair below 40. the truck is not burning any oil and has 164000 miles on it. thank you! jason .
