i have a 360 engine 1975 plymouth in my 80 d150 pick up three speed over drive purple shaft cam . i did not change the cam bearings but i noticed thet had no grove for the oil. the oil passage-ways go to the heads and are clear if the engine is stopped at the proper place to allow the cam journal to line up. it looked like the oil should get to the tappets twice for each engine revolution. i have started the engine and run it for 10 or 15 minutes at all rpms. runs fine but no oil to the tappets. what am i missing why do you think theres no oil to the lifters visual lifter noise what is the actual measured oil pressure if the oil pressure is low and the lifters are noisy one of the gallery plugs in the block might be missing. installing the incorrect lifters will also bleed off pressure and cause the lifters to be noisy. john .

it is getting close to time for the first oil change in my 2003 hemi and i am thinking about starting to use royal purple. i am wondering if anyone knows of any reason not to do this. thanks. i have a 2003 ram 1500 hemi 4x4 off road that i switched over to mobil 1 at 1k miles. also had a 2001 ram 1500 5.9 4x4 off road that was switch over to mobil 1 at 1k. never any problems..i would not worry about the break-in issue.. i asked a very good motor tech man that i trust at my dealer about the oil issues he said switch to synthetic oil anytime..the high priced performance vehicles come with mobil 1 from the factory. .

narrow that even further to the 2500s with the z8x suspension. the part is relatively rare as i found when trying to replace mine. dealers and junkyards did not even know what i was referring to and i had to show them in the computer. wmhj wrote does anyone know if they put them on the 2003 1500 i think they were put only on the 9798 and 99 4x4 model years. .

put a voltmeter on your battery both when the vehicle is off then start engine and check battery voltage again. a good system will show about 12.5 volts when engine off and 13.5 to 14.5 with engine running. if you dont see this at the battery then put the meter on the alternator and do the same test. if you then see the alternator test good after the test at the battery shows bad there is something wrong with your wiring from the alternator to the battery. if the test gives bad results at both the battery and the alternator then either the alternator is bad or the wiring to the alternator is bad. you dont need the computer interface to do these tests. v6 with new alternator and internal regulator and new battery will not charge. checked all fuses and wiring plus took alternator back for a replacement tested at advanced auto and is putting out but still no luck. driving me crazy. please email with any advice. thanks group... bill .

where did you get the wiring diagram id like to do that to my 03 too. since nobody was able to help with the computerized approach i pulled out the wiring diagrams. i decided to remove the fog lamp relay and install a fused jumper to the fog lamps from an unused run circuit fuse. now i have the fog lamps on as my drls. a clean solution that can be reversed in under a minute. on thu 07 aug 2003 215912 gmt nomail@mail.net wrote from what i read i can get daytime running lights enabled by setting the front lighting control modules country code to canada. i went down to my neighborhood dodge dealer and we hooked up their odbiii scan tool and walked through the many menu options. unfortunately we could not figure out where or how to set the county code. could some kind sole tell me how to get to the option to change the country code .

my apologies if this is a repeater. i posted a reply but it did not appear on my server i bought a factory service manual on cd from a vendor on ebay. here are the specifics got an in-line fuse holder with a couple of inches of wire on each end. crimped on a set of lugs the same size as the pins on the relays and fuses. fuse #37 is a spare run fuse positrion. and pin 87 on the relay goes to the fog lamps and indicator. removed the relay and pluged in the jumper. with the ignition switch in the run position i have fog lamps. to reverse it just remove the jumper and reinstall the relay. on tue 12 aug 2003 191332 -0500 wmhj wmhj@charter.net wrote where did you get the wiring diagram id like to do that to my 03 too. since nobody was able to help with the computerized approach i pulled out the wiring diagrams. i decided to remove the fog lamp relay and install a fused jumper to the fog lamps from an unused run circuit fuse. now i have the fog lamps on as my drls. a clean solution that can be reversed in under a minute. on thu 07 aug 2003 215912 gmt nomail@mail.net wrote from what i read i can get daytime running lights enabled by setting the front lighting control modules country code to canada. i went down to my neighborhood dodge dealer and we hooked up their odbiii scan tool and walked through the many menu options. unfortunately we could not figure out where or how to set the county code. could some kind sole tell me how to get to the option to change the country code .

i have found one yes only one exhaust that makes some difference. the gibson single side swept cat back. about $425 plus installation for the stainless steel version. but the big caveat here it provides only about a 3-7% increase in horsepower at higher rpms less at lower rpm and a corresponding 2-4% increase in fuel economy. it does not sacrifice any low end torque but is tuned for this type of application. at 11 mpg that means maybe a .4 mpg increase. worth it you figure out the yearly costs of fuel versus the slight increase. note it does make a little bit more exhaust noise but it is not super loud and droning like many other catback exhaust systems. i prefer the subtle almost quiet factory exhaust. with my 2001 ram 5 speed 318. no towing. keep speed at 60mph on the highway almost 18mpg. average closer to 70mph 16mpg. speed on the ram kills fuel economy. david on tue 12 aug 2003 032458 -0500 mike simmons mikesim@fidnet.com wrote it is doubtful that any of the mods you are considering will really improve your fuel economy to any significant degree. not enough to justify the expense imho. you didnt indicate what the actual fuel economy was but i suspect something around 7-10 mpg. yup mike youre exactly right... we get between 10 and 11 mpg when were not towing and between 7 and 8 usually when towing down the highway. keep in mind you have a fairly heavy truck towing a fairly heavy trailer that coupled with the aerodynamic load wind drag of the fiver will cause your fuel economy to be not so good. the best way to improve the fuel economy is to alter your driving habits. keep the speeds to about 65 mph tops. dont use cruise control. when driving in hilly country anticipate your needs by accelerating downhills before reaching the bottom of the uphill stretch. my wife does the vast majority of driving when towing and shes very good at maintaining a steady speed. we keep our speed to generally not more than 65 mph on the highway and especially like it when we can get off onto the small backroads where the speeds are slower. hope this helps! yeah itll keep me from spending a lot of money on intake and exhaust parts that arent going to pay for themselves!!!!! thanks for the info. chryco service manager member sae 1998 ram 1500 4x2 360 auto 3.92 lsd rear. we tow a small 6500 lb 5th wheel. the intake and exhaust are currently the standard stock factory ones. would there be changes that could be made to the intake and exhaust side of things that would improve the fuel economy - especially when towing in the past in this group there have been assertions that adding a k & n intake or other form of cold air intake didnt actually cause an improvement likewise that changing to a cat-back exhaust didnt actually provide an improvement in either power or fuel economy derisively referred to as seat of the pants horsepower. would changing both the intake and the exhaust and adding headers if necessary provide a significant improvement in economy performance is already adequate but since ive already got ot pull at least one of the exhaust manifolds im just wondering if i can improve the appallingly bad mileage by making some changes... .
