Q: on sun 3 oct 2004 110310 -0400 mryooneek@webtv.net wrote hi i have a 2001 ram 1500 318 2wd with a factory towing pakage and am going to pull a u haul 8 ft. trailer with some furniture from cincinnati to mishawaka indiana about 250 miles. besides double checking the tire pressures tranny fluidand coolant and keeping it out of overdrive climbing any upgrades any other tips for a newbie at pulling a trailer when im on flat terrian can i keep it in overdrive i also need a receiver i heard of a weight distribution type is this necessary for a small trailer like this thanks in advance! 1971 dodge challenger 1978 chrysler le baron 1989 rusty t-bird sport 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt 1989 dodge ram sltspare assuming that an 8 uhaul isnt going to have trailer brakes be aware that your stopping distance is going to be longer and youll feel the trailer push when stopping or slowing.... allow more distance and time for stopping and plan things a few more car lengths ahead than normal.. a ball on the bumper should haul that trailer fine and if the trailer is in decent shape and hitched correctly youll only know that its there when stopping and starting.... youll feel the load when youre leaving a stop sign merging on to the free way etc. so allow more time to get up to speed.. for 250 miles id drive it stock and use od if the tranny isnt doing a lot of up & down shifting hunting... try to have as much warning of hills ahead as possible... build up speed before going uphill to make the grade easier on you and the truck... slow down before cresting a hill and going down youll save your brakes... ymmv mac .

on my daughters 1990 d-150 pickup with the inoperative drivers side wiper. got it in to the garage where i could get a good look at it and had tools at hand. nylon/plastic bushings that hold arms to pivot points where shot. one out of four did not have a chunk out of it. found needed repair parts in the help parts section at advance auto. found the cowl grill is not hard to get off two screws under the windshield weather strip rubber that need to be loosened eight screws in the engine compartment that need removed. job took less than two hours including the five mile one way trip to the parts store. for any one that wants to know for future reference. 1. remove wiper arms. lift blade arm away from window rotate keeper up let arm down on keeper wiggle assembly off rotator assembly set aside. 2. loosen screws under windshield weather-strip. 3. remove screws in engine compartment. 4. loosen cowl grill pull out far enough to get windshield washer hoses off of the nozzles. remove cowl grill. 5. remove nut holding arm to wiper motor. try not to move motor shaft. 6. remove three bolts holding each wiper pivots to body 7. note the way the arms are positioned in relation to the other parts this is so you get the new parts installed in the correct direction. 8. remove all the parts to the work bench. do not try to do the following in the truck it is not worth the hassle. 9. remove old bushings if necessary. 10. install new bushings by pressing into arm with vise or pair of large channel locks. i used a small bench vice 11/16 socket as backer to keep from bending the arm as i pushed the nylon bushing in to the arm and on to the pin. 11. assemble arms onto pins. 12. slip entire assembly back into vehicle. 13. reinstall both wiper pivots do not tighten bolts yet 14. install drive arm to wiper motor. 15. tighten wiper pivot bolts. 16. test operation. correct any problems. 17. reinstall cowl grill. 18. reinstall wiper arms. with blade about 1 1/4 inch from bottom of windshield. 19. test wipers for full range of operation should not hit drivers side a pillar when at top of stroke. you may need to remove arms and reinstall them in another notch on the pivot to get every thing right. hope this info will help someone in the future. happy campimg. ldpoos@nopants.juno.com remove nopants to reply by direct e-mail; 2003 dodge 1500 qc sb hemi a/t tow package 3.92 gears 11 mpg towing 2001 aerolite 21rdb 21ft tt scales 2900 dry .

crybaby crap from budd snipped sorry for the piggyback response on budds reply but rrs worthless servers really suck and i never saw this one from you. sure you probably could buy a few stock short blocks for less and save money but you really wouldnt be any better off than you were to begin with .thenyouforgot to add the time and fun of yanking the dead engine out swapping parts putting the new one back in and hoping that you didnt miss or break something in the process and having no vehicle in the mean time. if you flog anything long enough and hard enough youll break it. the mods i gave are minor and are well within the capability of the engine to withstand. possibly but just because the mods are easy doesnt make them minor. changing the waste gate pressure on a turbocharged engine is easy too but the results are far from minor. im not completely sure how much more hp that engine can reliably deal with but from your link you are probably right. either way i doubt that the drive train will put up with it for long if you make it tow with this extra hp. any way you look at it there is no free lunch. iirc that engine was designed to put out around 260 hp stock without the blower and ford already added 100+ hp to it and i doubt that they made any significant changes internally or they simply wouldnt be able to sell that truck so cheap. you really dont know what the hell your talking about when it comes to high performance do ya when you say things like that it sounds more like you dont. dont you just love the way that got turned back around at ya from what i can find on the web it is the same 5.4 short block that the regular truck uses and ford hopped it up with a supercharger and some other mods. how much more hp do you think that this engine can take if they were using the gt block this truck would cost much more than it does now. tom i dont doubt for a minute that you can read but actually doing it with your hands and making it run right is much different than sitting at a desk and reading about it. yes you do have to have the information before you get started but there is more to it than just reading about it. denny .

in the owners manual that came with the truck. can anyone tell me for sure what fuse should be out if this is occuring or if it could possibly be the light switch or thanks fuse #1 in the fuse panel on the side of the dash. its a standard-size blade fuse 15a... not one of the mini-blade fuses. older rams had a problem with the headlamp switch burning out its wiring harness... 99s were not included in this however. pull that fuse out and swap it with another 15a fuse - there should be a couple in the power distribution center under the hood. in a pinch you could temporarily swap it with fuse #2 which is only a 10a fuse just to see if the lights will come on. if so youre all set. if not then yes - probably best to let someone take a look at it. the troubleshooting is pretty straight-forward but if you havent done much electrical work it can get pretty frustrating. .

you may have cooked the headlight switch which would cause this but i would look at the fuses once again. pull them out and check them dont go by sight while they are installed. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving 1999 dodge 1500 4 x 4. i see a discussion about a problem that is very similar to one a friend is experiencing. instrument/dash lights illimination for speedo tach etc and tail running lights are out. tail light has three bulbs upper middle reverse light and lower. the upper light still comes on for brakes hazzards and blinkers. middle section still comes on for reverse. lower section never comes on. my friend and i really dont know much about electrical systems testing hunting problems reading schematics etc. so well probably end up at a shop or possibly turning to another friend for assistance. but first i would like to at least find a burnt fuse and try changing it it may have blown when he tried hooking up a trailer a few weeks ago. i have looked at all of the fuses on the side of the dash and in the fuse compartment under the hood. i cant find a bad fuse nor one that is labeled such that it looks like it would be the fuse that these circuits are on at least not in the owners manual that came with the truck. can anyone tell me for sure what fuse should be out if this is occuring or if it could possibly be the light switch or thanks .
