i too like the ram but its too much truck for me. thats why i went for the dakota 3rd. one now. the new dakota with the v6 is way under powered. when i test drove it i felt like the brake was on. the new 4.7l v8 is adequate but thats it and nothing more. why not the hemi i have no idea. it isnt that much larger and form what i see should fit. heck ive seen a viper 8.3l v10 in a jeep wrangler so i know it can happen http//www.4wdandsportutility.com/features/jeep/07104wd2006jeepwranglerv10/index.html the v6 in a ram must feel worse than the v6 in the dakota. as for the paint i take pretty good care of all my vehicles and just dont have an explanation as to why the paint goes to crap after so many years. i can only point to not enough uv clear on top. my 98 has such a thin coat of clear that if i use finesse-it 3m clear coat final polishing solution to remove any hair line scratch that it almost immediately cuts through the clear and into the paint. on an after market clear coat paint job i can use this chemical all day long and never get into the paint. in fact on the paint i squirted on my 55 chevy i used the 3 levels of this type compound to color sand it for more than a week and never got close to the paint. on my 98 dakota it will take less that 2 minutes. i cant even figure out how they manage to get it that thin in the first place but they do. my only hope on my 07 dakota is that the germans taught mopar how to paint a vehicle. the paint looks thicker anyway. its weird - my neighbor has an 02 ram red and its gorgeous. sits out in 90-degree-plus sunshine every day just like mine and his paints beautiful. i love the truck but some stuff on it is just garbage. abby.normal back.off@nospam.net wrote in i know that dodge has never learned to paint a vehicle. ive seen that happen on a lot of them. the paint sort of wears off. they dont put enough clear on and the clear they use must be cheap. once you get it repainted by someone that does know how to paint it will last. i had a 1988 pontiac do that and gm repainted it all for free. dodge would never consider that. they dont even recall anything until the maximum allowed people have been killed first. all in all i still think they are a pretty nice vehicle. although after this last crap they offered i am changing next time around. they just offered free lifetime drive train warranties on everything purchased after sep. something this year. i just spend over $40 on two new vehicles from dodge/chrysler and do not qualify because i purchased them both just about a month or so prior to them making that offer. im done buying from them now. gm would have made that reasonably retroactive. ford is simply crap in every aspect - dont even go down that road without a full box of tools towing insurance and a cell phone. nope only waxed in the garage. but it stays out in the south florida sun all the time. still... abby.normal back.off@nospam.net wrote in coming off an 03 did you ever wax it in direct sunlight yeah all my dakotas did that but the truck is worth it. i got an estimate for repainting the hood and roof for $600 and did it myself for $250. paints bubbling and flaking off on my black 03 dak leaving rough white discolored areas on the roof and hood. of course clearcoats totally gone in those areas. havent been able to find it so far but is there a warranty period for the paint theres no rust only paint problems. tia. .

failed inspection-my emergency brake did not hold strong enough-- i will take it in tomorrow-can it be adjusted-- or what michael sure... follow the cable from the rear back to the drivers compartment. you should find an adjuster - its a couple of l-shaped brackets held together with a long threaded rod and a nut. tighten this to tighten the e-brake cable. dont over-tighten or the brakes will drag. you just want all the slack taken out of the cable. auto parts places also sell a universal cable tightener for a few dollars... not the best thing to use but if the stock adjuster is frozen up it makes for a quick fix. of course this is assuming its just a loose cable and not a bigger problem with the mechanism itself - pull the rears off and inspect the brakes if tightening the cable doesnt restore full functionality. .

i would first adjust the rear brakes on a 99 you probably still have drum brakes on on the rear. mine is a 2000 and it has drum rear brakes. just adjust them up until the wheel locks and then back off 8 clicks on each side. on sun 9 sep 2007 143841 -0500 m.balarama mbalar@sbcglobal.net wrote failed inspection-my emergency brake did not hold strong enough-- i will take it in tomorrow-can it be adjusted-- or what michael .
