drive line clunk
From : brian
Q: i recently purchaced a 2001 ram 1500 qc with 5.9l auto i thought that dodge had corrected the ever popular transmission problems by then but i think i may be wrong. i have recently noticed a clunk in the drive line when i take my foot off the accelerator. i thought it may be u- joints but then i noticed it only happening in second gear. also occasionally when the trans shifts from first to second it seems a little jerkey like its ot sure what it wants to do. every other gear seems fine. any ideas thanks in advance brian .

my cummins does that strange shift into second but without the clunk. i think it is because the second shift uses a band instead of a cluch in the tranny. bands seem to not be as smooth or concistant in shifts. 30000 miles still ok. also the clunk i have heard in my fathers durrango. i thing it is just some play in the rear differencial but at any rate he has 196xxx on his truck and never had any major work done yet. .
