Q: im currently shopping around for a truck that will be used primarily as a work vehicle. after recovering from the sticker shock of an 04 cummins crew cab $46k ive been researching the used market. i like the 97 f350 i dont like the 98+ ford body style 4x4 crew cab single rear wheel diesel ford long bed but id prefer a cummins if i can find one. after all the problems i had with my 96 cummins dually i stopped keeping up with the different dodge models over the years and now im sort of starting over in my research. after about 97 when was the first crew cab cummins introduced was it available in a 2500 how early was the single rear wheel 3500 available can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 3500 in a long bed can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 2500 in a long bed quad cab is certainly an option as well. when did the quad cab become available can you get it in a 3500 long bed with single rear wheels 2500 was the front disk issues that i had with my 96 ever fixed i dont want to ever have to go through that again. when did rear disk brakes become available is there a retrofit for the models prior to sorry for having so many questions and thanks in advance for any assistance. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

nate; except for the ever-failing cam and throttle position sensors the 7.3 fords are very good units keep a cam sensor spare with you if it fails you can replace it in about 10 minutes g im currently shopping around for a truck that will be used primarily as a work vehicle. after recovering from the sticker shock of an 04 cummins crew cab $46k ive been researching the used market. i like the 97 f350 i dont like the 98+ ford body style 4x4 crew cab single rear wheel diesel ford long bed but id prefer a cummins if i can find one. after all the problems i had with my 96 cummins dually i stopped keeping up with the different dodge models over the years and now im sort of starting over in my research. after about 97 when was the first crew cab cummins introduced was it available in a 2500 how early was the single rear wheel 3500 available can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 3500 in a long bed can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 2500 in a long bed quad cab is certainly an option as well. when did the quad cab become available can you get it in a 3500 long bed with single rear wheels 2500 was the front disk issues that i had with my 96 ever fixed i dont want to ever have to go through that again. when did rear disk brakes become available is there a retrofit for the models prior to sorry for having so many questions and thanks in advance for any assistance. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

except for the ever-failing cam and throttle position sensors the 7.3 fords are very good units hi gary the only thing that really concerns me about the 7.3 is the cavitation issues that are prone to occur without the proper coolant additive. id also prefer something a little newer but again i dont like the 98+ dodge knock-off that ford is using. if i can find a comparable cummins equipped dodge i think id be much happier. i took a dodge home overnight http//7slotgrille.com/d.jpg just to see how i would like it and even though it wasnt what i was looking for its a half ton gas short bed 4x4 i want at least a 3/4 ton diesel long bed 4x4 i nearly bought it anyway. so im looking for a dodge comparable to the 97 f350 crew or at least quad cab 4x4 single rear wheel diesel if such a beast exists. another benefit would be that if i find it before the mon-dak move i wont need to rent a truck since i could build a 30 enclosed trailer with what i have on hand. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

im currently shopping around for a truck that will be used primarily as a work vehicle. after recovering from the sticker shock of an 04 cummins crew cab $46k well thats what you get with laramie package. drop down to an slt and it can be had for about $33k after about 97 when was the first crew cab cummins introduced the first model with four real doors was 2003. prior to that the quad cab was an extended cab with the suicide-style half doors. 98-02 was it available in a 2500 how early was the single rear wheel 3500 available 3500 srw also first became available in the 03 model year. can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 3500 in a long bed 03 or later yes. can you get a crew cab single rear wheel 2500 in a long bed again 03 or later yes. quad cab is certainly an option as well. when did the quad cab become available 1998 can you get it in a 3500 long bed with single rear wheels 2500 2500 only. 3500s from 94 up to and including 02 were all dual rear wheel. was the front disk issues that i had with my 96 ever fixed the brakes were significantly better starting with the 98 trucks. when did rear disk brakes become available is there a retrofit for the models prior to rear discs became available from the factory in the 2001.5 trucks. retrofit kits are available from a couple of different places running between $500 and $1000 depending on primarily if you want an emergency brake or not. sorry for having so many questions and thanks in advance for any assistance. my advice - look long and hard again at a middle-of-the-road option-wise 04 3500 srw. the cummins 600 is now out - thats 325hp/600ft.lbs. from the factory. the new cr common rail isb is a dream... no more bleeding the injector lines if you accidentally run it dry member that lots of power and relatively quiet thanks to the pilot injection system. have a look http//www.edmunds.com/new/2004/dodge/rampickup3500/100302433/optionsresults.htmlaction=2&tid=edmunds.n.options.ntmv.1.1.dodge* .

nate; the cavitation thing is pretty much a no-brainer...........put in the additive when you drain and flush the coolant onece a year just like you put in water pump lube on a gasser g except for the ever-failing cam and throttle position sensors the 7.3 fords are very good units hi gary the only thing that really concerns me about the 7.3 is the cavitation issues that are prone to occur without the proper coolant additive. id also prefer something a little newer but again i dont like the 98+ dodge knock-off that ford is using. if i can find a comparable cummins equipped dodge i think id be much happier. i took a dodge home overnight http//7slotgrille.com/d.jpg just to see how i would like it and even though it wasnt what i was looking for its a half ton gas short bed 4x4 i want at least a 3/4 ton diesel long bed 4x4 i nearly bought it anyway. so im looking for a dodge comparable to the 97 f350 crew or at least quad cab 4x4 single rear wheel diesel if such a beast exists. another benefit would be that if i find it before the mon-dak move i wont need to rent a truck since i could build a 30 enclosed trailer with what i have on hand. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

the cavitation thing is pretty much a no-brainer...........put in the additive when you drain and flush the coolant onece a year right....but the problem is that previous owners havent been doing that so the damage is most likely already done. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

many years ago i used a product that was for air stream travel trailers. it was a clear liquid you spayed on and would eat the metal if left on to long also. you might try your local rv dealer their has to be something similar still on the market. i know it took a lot of talking to get them to sell me some they wanted me to pay them to do it. gary carter | many years ago there used to be a really strong spray on product that you | rinsed off 60 seconds later and the oxidation would be gone leaving you with | beautiful polished aluminum. this stuff would start to eat a hole if left | on more than 60 seconds but if you followed the instructions properly it | did a great job. i was given an aluminum tool box that i plan on using but | its oxidized really bad. i went to look for this stuff was made by the | same people who make purple stuff and couldnt find it. im wondering if | there is anything on the market today that you can spray on/rinse off to | remove oxidation i dont want to break out the aluminum polish which will | take 2 days checker plate. | thanks | | -- | nathan w. collier | http//7slotgrille.com | http//utilityoffroad.com | | | .

well thats what you get with laramie package. drop down to an slt and it can be had for about $33k thats not to bad really. still if i bought a truck that expensive it would have to serve as my daily driver. my advice - look long and hard again at a middle-of-the-road option-wise 04 3500 srw. thanks for all the useful information. im not real sure yet which way ill go. i dont want to haul dirty employees around in an 04 which is another reason i was considering older/used and although id love to have an 04 for my own thing i couldnt manage that and an older truck right now. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .
