Q: ok very confused about what the actual fuel mileage is on a 2500 cummins quad cab. am thinking of buying a 99 or newer with 24 vavle cummins. have heard many people getting close to 30mpg on these trucks with a chip and 20=mpg towing. is this a pipedream who has these trucks and what kind of chip and what is your mpg thanks in advance for replies. .

quad cab. am thinking of buying a 99 or newer with 24 vavle cummins. have heard many people getting close to 30mpg on these trucks with a chip and 20=mpg towing. is this a pipedream absolutely. what theyre probably looking at is their overhead computer which reads erroneously when any kind of fueling box is present. who has these trucks and what kind of chip and what is your mpg thanks in advance for replies. my 03 3500 quad cab dually makes about 500rwhp and i get about 17mpg with it empty about 15mpg towing 8k with a much lower top-end hp setting however. i run both a tst powermax cr and an edge ez. the edge raises the fuel rail pressure and the tst advances the injection timing - both of which are good for fuel economy. the tst also increases the injector pulse width allowing more fuel into the cylinders which is bad for fuel economy. if i dialed the pressure down a notch and rolled the tst back to do timing advance only as well as lowering my speed on the highways - the new rams arent exactly aerodynamic i could probably squeak out 20mpg.... but now what fun would that be .

guys mine gets who knows what around town and 22.85 mpg while traveling the highways. it is a 2-wheel-drive 3.55 diff 235/85 tires tall and skinny and a stick. i bought the last 12-valver they made. first half of 1998. also mine is a crewcab cause i have kids. why two wheel drive cause im not a country-boy-wanna-be. fact is i grew up on a dairy farm and had all the 4x4 driving i could ever stand. you want a 4x4 go with a fulltime stepside 78 gmc with a 305 and auto. we called ours affectionately the goat. it was white and could go where nothing else could. you had to be there. the dirt roads are south alabama clay! the goat was really the minimum of equipment you would want driving those roads. did it get stuck...he!! yes! the norm was to just drive the tractors out. sometimes we would leave a tractor up by the paved road just in case we knew there was no good chance of getting in. or leave a truck up by the road if we knew we would have to use a tractor to get out. stu just for reference; 92 w250 4x4 w/cummins 12 valve bone stock. 21 mpg highway 17.5 mpg highway with combined load in bed and on trailer of 6000 lbs. 16.5 mpg highway with 10.5 slide-on camper. all that wind resistance dont you know - bob ok very confused about what the actual fuel mileage is on a 2500 cummins quad cab. am thinking of buying a 99 or newer with 24 vavle cummins. have heard many people getting close to 30mpg on these trucks with a chip and 20=mpg towing. is this a pipedream who has these trucks and what kind of chip and what is your mpg thanks in advance for replies. .

i have an 02 2500 with the cummins no chip and i sem to get 21-23 mpg always...wheter its around town on the highway or even towing my two horse trailer it never goes below 21! i should add its a quad cab 4x4 and has the 6 speed std tranny .

on sat 17 jul 2004 215024 -0500 hagar hebiv@comcast.net wrote ok very confused about what the actual fuel mileage is on a 2500 cummins quad cab. am thinking of buying a 99 or newer with 24 vavle cummins. have heard many people getting close to 30mpg on these trucks with a chip and 20=mpg towing. is this a pipedream who has these trucks and what kind of chip and what is your mpg thanks in advance for replies. i bought a 04 reg cab cummins in november. i put on spiffy new rims and 325 x18 toyo tires. they threw the speedometer off sync by about 10%. i also installed a re-programmer which supposedly adds 85 hp. the overhead display immediately dropped fuel consumption but i notice only a small difference in consumption when i checked the litres per 100 km each time i fueled up. i get 13.8 l/100km with a combination of city and highway. this is based on the last 7000 kms. that is about 20 mpg canadian. the overhead display seems quite accurate now. the chip skewed it one way and the oversize tires the other way so they apparantly cancelled one another. i am pleased with the re-programmer though. the truck really got a wake up call. .

2004 - 2500 gets 14.4 regardless of city or highway. only has 7k on the odometerand am told that the mileage will get better with time. .

my 98 12v gets 17-18 around town & 22 on the road2wd & auto w/qc & 3.55 gears 94 4x4 4.10 gears 35 tires 5spd gets 18 on road & 15 aound town but i drive it hard has 400hp .

i just made a run from salt lake city utah. to marysville ca a couple of weeks ago. kept track the old fashioned way. i got 20.5 mpg going to ca with cruise set at 85 mph. loaded up with 1800lbs of landscaping rocks in marysville good deal and needed them anyway i got 21.5mpg coming back cruise set at 78mph i have a 99 2500 short bed extended cab. oil burner auto trans 285/75 16 tires superchips set at +70 4 exhaust airraid intake system and a shell that is the same height as the cab probably reducing wind drag. i drove 1800 miles in three days and the mpg dropped to 18.5 in city driving. i tracked the highway driving by itself. btw perhaps i am lucky but i was only off .5 mpg to the overhead computer. i do not put tons of faith in it but it seemed to be pretty close to my pencil answers. .
