dakota gas fill problems
From : chuck
Q: at the very bottom of the filler tube in the tank there is a ball in the filler tube. it may be jammed or hung up take some stiff rubber hose such as a 5/16 fuel line run it down the filler and see if the float ball is jammed. the ball float usually rides to the top of the tank itself to prevent over filling of the tank. -- coasty sempar paratus always ready remove the spooge to reply i replaced the gas filler neck on my 1999 dakota. now for some reason i cant pump gas into it without the gas pump nozzel shutting off. the new filler neck is identical to the old one. the only way to get gas in is to go very slow. whats wrong. is there a check valve somewhere in the line that i may have broken chuck .

miles wrote hp wrote i have an 04 1500 ram 4x4 5.7 hemi quad with swb. the gears are 3.53. i bought this without knowing anything about towing and at the time only intended on towing a pop-up trailer which we never felt behind us. we upgraded to a 25 foot camper approx 5000.lbs. when in the hilly areas we noticed that we really have to work to get up some of the hills. we have only modified the truck with a k&n air intake kit so far. what should we do to give this truck a higher towing capacity i have heard changing the rear gears would help how much would something like this cost would my fuel mileage suffer i have 12000 miles on the truck now and would get screwed over by trading it for a 2500 ram. thanks howard i have a 04 durango hemi and pull about 5000lbs loaded. it pulls it with ease. up steep hills i drop it to 2nd and tow up them at about 45mph. to me thats pretty darn good up very steep grades. ive got an 04 durango hemi also 2wd 5 speed auto. with the tow/haul engaged should it be shifting into fifth gear the manual says it will stay out of overdrive but is od different than fifth i tried using the cruise control while towing at seventy mph it wouldnt stay in any gear longer than a few seconds kept shifting up/down. im probably towing close to 6000 lbs. mostly tow on level terrain to slightly rolling. id like to be able to control the shift points maybe keep it out of fifth altogether. thanks b a r .

says you. i think the tsbs description of locking in 3rd gear clearly fits the classic definition of the limp mode. youre wrong get over it. fwiw there is no limp home mode mentioned in any form in the 00 fsm description of operation of the 46/47re fwiw the tsb only deals with transmissions built prior to december 18 1998 which falls within the range of the original posters unit. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. below is a direct quote from dc tsb 21-04-00 referring to the 96-99 46re transmission the vehicle operator may experience slower than normal vehicle accelerations because the transmission may have temporarily entered its third gear limp-in mode as a result of the dtc. the limp- in mode may last until the vehicle owner cycles the ignition key. the technician may not detect a problem with the automatic transmission during a diagnostic test or test drive. the quotation marks surrounding limp-in are dcs not mine; making it rather obvious that the a500 /518 /618 family does indeed go into a limp mode under certain circumstances. got a problem with that talk to dc. first off a 97 2500 would have a 47re if a v-8 and a 48re if a v-10 so this tsb does not apply to the vehicle in question au contraire!! the tsb specifically refers to all res. again a direct quote from the tsb this information applies to vehicles equipped with a re series automatic transmission built before december 18 1998 mdh 1218xx really then why did you specifically say 46re originally irrelevant since you clearly stated that a transmission of the a500 518 618 family could not enter such a mode regardless of what the mode is called. all of the re series falls within that family. youre wrong get over it. the original post didnt specify an engine size but only the diesel and v-10 had the 47re in 97 the 48re came along much later. any 2500-series will have a 518 or 618 if later v-10 or diesel second mopars use of quotation marks indicates that this is a non-factory-programmed event kind of like windows 98 freezing up if it automatically reverts to a certain gear when an error occurs it is a factory-programmed event just like windows 98 flashing a blue screen. if it were a factory programed mode limp mode would be called limp mode not limp-in picky picky. i suppose it depends on the definition of limp. yes it does and your interpretation of limp-in is wrong says you. i think the tsbs description of locking in 3rd gear clearly fits the classic definition of the limp mode. youre wrong get over it. .

hp wrote .bobthanksbut besides being the acronym for a drug what is lsd also you mean even though i might never tow in 4x4 mode i would need to change gears in front also the front and rear gear ratios need to match. otherwise when in 4x4 one set of wheels will try to turn faster than other. does strange things to the handling. what would changing gears up to 3.92 due to my mileage depends on the type of driving you do. if most of your driving is 65 mph or less it may actually improve it by keeping the engine closer to its power peak. i would expect your towing mileage to improve or stay the same because you wont need as much throttle opening to do the same job. otoh if you live in montana and routinely cruise along at 85 mph changing gears will probably decrease mileage. also by changing the gears does this mean that the engine wont need to race up as much to get up the hills. depends. many times the rpms climb dramatically because youve downshifted in to 2nd to make the hills. with better gearing youll only be down in to 3rd. with the k&n intake my wife and i can barely talk to each other when i rev up for the hills. over the years a lot of testing has been done on dodge engine to see what makes more power and what doesnt. a good open element air cleaner was one of the few items that did although not very much. i wouldnt get rid of it but i would figure out a way to shroud it to prevent the noise intrusion into the cab. i have one on my truck and although i can hear it it certainly isnt intrusive. are you sure the noise is from the air cleaner try putting the stock parts back on and run the same route. sorry i ask so many questions but i know very little about trucksenginesrunning gear. thats ok. we all gotta learn some time. for reference heres a little chart to compare speed and rpms in different gear ratios gearfdrspeed 1st2.48.5227.9 2nd1.475.218545.6 3rd13.5567 4th0.822.91181.7 rear3.55 tire32 rpm2500 ------------------------------------ gearfdrspeed 1st2.49.40825.2 2nd1.475.762441.3 3rd13.9260.7 4th0.823.214474 rear3.92 tire32 rpm2500 if you want the spreadsheet let me know. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project .
