well the only thing someone hasnt suggested is to rebuild the engine .. so ill throw that out there to make sure weve covered all the bases. im thinking its a carb or timing problem so looking for a vacuum leak is the first step. take a can of wd40 and spray it around the carb and hoses see if the idle changes .. if it does then youve found a leak. it could be a hose or the gasket between carb and intake manifold etc. if you have a timing light .. throw it on there and see whats up. there should be some tuning specs on a sticker under the hood or get a book from the library to tell you what to set the idle rpm at and the idle timing advance. good luck. i have a 1985 dodge ramcharger prospect that runs like s#!t. i have cleaned the carb disconnected the exhaust changed all the plugs and wires cap and rotor did an oil change. when it sits and idles it runs good and i push the gas and no loss of power. the problem is when i put it in gear it losses power and starts chugging. any suggestions .
