Q: on tue 01 mar 2005 063407 gmt scott s. urn4trouble@hotmail.com wrote hmm i get around a average of 21 mpg in city and highway in my 99. no matter how hard i push it. 5 speed helps a little but i doubt that much of a difference. is your truck a 3.9 v6 oldtimer says... i bought a used 96 dakota club cab 3.9 v6 with automatic nearly a year ago. the truck itself is close to being a cherry but the gas mileage sucks. the plug wires and dist cap appear to have been new when i bought the truck. when pulled the plugs also looked new. the cat rattled so i had it replaced. i put in new thermostat just in case. the air filter has been changed. the tires are properly inflated. the rear end gears are 3.5. i use 10w-30 oil. there are no trouble codes registering. the truck runs just fine even with 97000 miles on it. however the gas milage sucks. even though no codes were registering i took an uneducated guess and changed out the after-cat oxygen sensor. i drive it with a very light foot. before replacing the oxy sensor i was getting 12 to 12.5 mpg city. now after a new sensor i am getting 14-14.5 city. is this the best i can expect from this truck. what are others getting as city mileage with a simliar dakota. what cost effective measure can i take to try to up the mileage oldtimer thats about right. my friend gets about the same mileage with a pretty much identical dak. he really wishes he got a v8 since his trucks slow as hell. my hemi ram gets 11.5 or so around town and is a hell of a lot more fun.. bdk .

lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net writes its available or at least used to be as a kit from mopar but you can get by with your basic split-loom and some universal ignition wire clips. the important thing is to separate the wires that are adjacent in the firing order order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 - and its typically the 5/7 combo that cross-fires becuase those wires naturally want to run parallel with each other. keep the wires spaced at least a wire-thickness apart and when they do have to cross make them cross at as close to a right angle as possible minimize their co-mingling. also make sure that you keep the coil wire isolated as running that adjacent to any plug wire is just as bad if not worse then having two plug wires in direct contact. some have even gone so far as to re-locate the coil to the firewall something else thats pretty easy to do - just need to make a bracket and extend the wire harness - two wires very easy to do. when you think about it its not the smartest location for the coil to begin with... the further away from the distributor the more voltage thats lost to resistance especially as the wires age. thanks tom well the coil wire runs up the 2-4-6-8 side of the engine and my problem is over on the other side but yes i agree its location on the truck struck me as a bit odd. hmm.. where have i seen that firing order before oh yes gm ;- its spozed to be nice here houston satdy so im hoping i can steal 30 mins or so away from the wifes honeydo list to try this tsb. its rodeo time in houston and her brothers family from tampa will be here sponging off of us for a few days next week to go out and walk amongst the manure and see all the excitement. its really a big-big deal the rodeo takes over the whole astrodome and reliant stadium complex. http//www.hlsr.com if youre interested. .

i asked my dad why he isnt keeping his little pickup truck in the garage. he said that he heard that they were catching on fire while being parked. he asked the dealer about it and they said that ford would be sending out letters concerning the problem. this was a few months ago. now you have to understand that dad is 85 and can get a little confused so i am not sure what to believe. have any of you here heard about such spontanious fires happening beekeep ps has anyone heard from budd lately and if anyone has his email addy would you ping it to me at honeybs@radix.net. i would like to send him a note. i thought that was a normal thing for fords to catch fire!! i hope he doesnt live down by your neighborhood that caught fire .

i got a kit with rubber door molding from advance auto. seen them at pep boys also bill -- i have a 95 b2500 which has been whistling through the doors for a while when driving at highway speeds. sounds to me like air is seeping through the weather stripping and its most likely time to replace the drivers side and passengers side. where besides the dealer can you get a replacement set any websites that are a good source for dodge van parts thanks barry .

@comcast.net says... 99 ram 2500 v10 when i take a hard right turn and then use the brakes the pedal will go to the floor. next time i use the brakes they seem to be fine. any ideas thanks jimo like another poster said one of the flex lines are bulging up when the wheel is turned. change them both as the other side is probably going bad too. sometimes when you change the flex lines the car/truck has better brakes than it had when it was new. dont go cheap on the lines either. the better ones make for a better pedal feel. i was working on a car with a really mushy pedal once and after changing the pads and bleeding them something was wrong the pedal was almost as mushy as it was before i did anything. i had someone get in and push the brake pedal. the flex hose on the left side swelled up to a huge size. i jumped back as i expected to get sprayed with brake fluid! two new hoses and another bleed and it had a nice pedal. bdk .
