Block Heater
From : kyle
Q: 2001 dodge ram 5.9 just curious about my block heater. first year ill have to use it. im getting a electric plug in timer to program when to have it come on for about 2 hours prior to running the engine. what my question concerns is can i still start the truck with the block heater plugged in would damage occur to the cord or anything else it would be handy to start it from inside my home with my remote starter and let it run a few minutes. i realize that a remote starters purpose is to warm the vehicle but the block heater will come in handy for sub zero temperatures. any tips or ideas are appreciated. .

the only damage that will occur is when you drive away with it still connected to the extension cord. joe on 9 nov 2003 215614 -0800 tiggy@gisco.net kyle wrote 2001 dodge ram 5.9 just curious about my block heater. first year ill have to use it. im getting a electric plug in timer to program when to have it come on for about 2 hours prior to running the engine. what my question concerns is can i still start the truck with the block heater plugged in would damage occur to the cord or anything else it would be handy to start it from inside my home with my remote starter and let it run a few minutes. i realize that a remote starters purpose is to warm the vehicle but the block heater will come in handy for sub zero temperatures. any tips or ideas are appreciated. .

why go through all that trouble just form a figure 8 with the 2 cords when you plug them in save the twist lock ones for the outlet in the garage if you really want to make sure it doesnt come unpluged convert you block heater and extension cord to a twist plug that way when you drive off you will take the whole cord with you. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

look at what we use for a connector. works great if you keep it clean and with its spring loaded cover it keeps itself pretty clean. you still have to do a little pm on it annually. it sure would beat dealing with the cord every morning. http//www.kussmaul.com/ejector.htm fmb only one b in fmb and im not pimpin for kussmaul 2001 dodge ram 5.9 just curious about my block heater. first year ill have to use it. im getting a electric plug in timer to program when to have it come on for about 2 hours prior to running the engine. what my question concerns is can i still start the truck with the block heater plugged in would damage occur to the cord or anything else it would be handy to start it from inside my home with my remote starter and let it run a few minutes. i realize that a remote starters purpose is to warm the vehicle but the block heater will come in handy for sub zero temperatures. any tips or ideas are appreciated. .

a dodge block heater is nothing more than a heater element in the water jacket. it does not pump anything. my block heater makes a hissing sound if you get real close to it. it must just be the water getting heated. james .

it would make little sense to heat the oil. actually it makes good sense to heat the oil. you never saw a dip-stick heater warm oil in a very cold climate will make the engine start a lot easier. i can tell you that from experience. james .

if you only are using the dipstick oil heater i really doubt that it will do much of anything except let the oil pump turn a little easier. this may allow it to crank a little faster and that may be what helps you start it faster. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving it would make little sense to heat the oil. actually it makes good sense to heat the oil. you never saw a dip-stick heater warm oil in a very cold climate will make the engine start a lot easier. i can tell you that from experience. james .
