Q: no although you might think so with the way that they act and work. our brilliant last governor decided to privatize the dmv and really screwed it up. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving in nj it would be neither what they work for the mob there ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

you might want to consider a hard or roll back cover in your area unless cost is a primary issue. soft covers can get difficult to remove and re-install when it gets cold. i put up with that for years until it finally failed and i bought a roll back cover to replace it. best investment in the truck that i ever made. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving im thinking of getting a soft tonneau cover for my new 2004 ram 1500 slt qc 4x4. there seem to be a lot of mfgs. of these things - any that stand out in particular in quality and longevity i live in new england so cold/snow/rain will be frequently encountered. thanks! mike .

i have a 2003 ram 1500 long bed. i have the downey products cover. it has a unique fastening system where there are full length grooves on all sides and movable snaps. in otherwords you can snap it down anywhere along the channel and dont have to align cover snaps with rail snaps. its holding up nicely through rain and snow. it cost me about $250. .

roll n lock spelling may not be exact. one thing i liked was that it locks the tailgate to the top and secures items in the bed. i am not sure about all dodge trucks but the ones that i have seen did not have tail gate locks. my line-x dealer installed the cover. claud mike in mystic wrote which brand do you have i love my roll back. more expensive than the soft covers but well worth it to me. claud mike in mystic wrote im thinking of getting a soft tonneau cover for my new 2004 ram 1500 slt qc 4x4. there seem to be a lot of mfgs. of these things - any that stand out in particular in quality and longevity i live in new england so cold/snow/rain will be frequently encountered. thanks! mike .

@nospam.15252.invalid says... 1999 dodge ram 1500 oversized receiver opening. 1. how hard are those receivers to install. not hard at all. thanks. its about unscrewing a few screws connecting a couple of connectrs things like that 2. is there any ones with mp3 capability yes but you dont have to get one of the bigger ones an adaptor will let you put a normal sized one in a good move imo since you have a much better selection. i see. thanks yes it opens a lot of possibilities. its weird that smaller receivers have more functions... even though i know that about the only difference is software on the rom chips more or less. 3. is that satellite radio worth anything it will be my next move when my present head unit dies i will get one that has xm controls. so then i will try to get one with xm controls also if it is not too expensive. thanks. 4. are there any ones with multi-cd capability say 2-3 cds certainly an oversized opening should make it possible. yes but a normal sized one that has a external changer is probably better. well that means using extra space for the changer something i would prefer to avoid. oh well. thanks i .

it really depends on what you want to put in the back of the truck and what level of security you want or need. the soft covers can keep things dry and take up no bed space either opened or closed can stretch over objects in the bed that are a little too tall and are the least expensive. on the down side the offer little security and can be difficult to work with in cold weather. the hard covers are the best looking after being painted and offer excellent security but can be difficult to install and remove. this can be a problem if you decide to pick up a large item that will not fit under it and is too large to prop it in its partial open position. the roll backs offer the ease of the soft cover and the security of the hard cover and are easy to open and close in cold weather. on the down side they are expensive and steal some room from the bed. whatever your choice good luck. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving thats only for the over-the-rail bedliners right i have one of the under-the-rail type and was assuming i wouldnt have to cut anything. and youre right the difference in price features mfgs. etc. make this a tough decision especially since i have no real good experience to base the decision on. mike on mon 05 jan 2004 210634 gmt mike in mystic sandiedadog@hotmail.com wrote im thinking of getting a soft tonneau cover for my new 2004 ram 1500 slt qc 4x4. there seem to be a lot of mfgs. of these things - any that stand out in particular in quality and longevity i live in new england so cold/snow/rain will be frequently encountered. thanks! mike im searching now... i feel your pain... looking at access pace edwards etc.... so far the access looks good for a soft roll back the pace edwards is expensive but i like the solid sliding idea especially the fact that it will lock every 12 inches so if you have something in the rear of the bed like a bbq or something you can still use the cover... looking at between $300 and $700 depending on brand and type... note i have a bedliner and all of the covers that ive looked at require cutting holes in the bedliner to install the rail clamps.. mac .

im just about decided on the low profile truxedo but i might just wait awhile and get more use of the truck and see what features ill want. i want to be able to add bed rails at some point or even a ladder rack perhaps. its about $400 which seems to be about the mid point. i definitely cant go $650 for the pe. that rollnlock set up looks sweet but not for almost $900. mike on tue 6 jan 2004 173427 -0500 tbone fatchance@noway.now wrote you just summed up my search! id be tempted to go hard cover since the ram is used mainly for towing but the dakota has a camper shell and one of em should be able to carry tall stuff... leaning toward the roll/slide back probably the pace edwards but its like $650... ouch! it really depends on what you want to put in the back of the truck and what level of security you want or need. the soft covers can keep things dry and take up no bed space either opened or closed can stretch over objects in the bed that are a little too tall and are the least expensive. on the down side the offer little security and can be difficult to work with in cold weather. the hard covers are the best looking after being painted and offer excellent security but can be difficult to install and remove. this can be a problem if you decide to pick up a large item that will not fit under it and is too large to prop it in its partial open position. the roll backs offer the ease of the soft cover and the security of the hard cover and are easy to open and close in cold weather. on the down side they are expensive and steal some room from the bed. whatever your choice good luck. mac .

with regards to the vehicle itself as i recall the only issue dodge states is that they do not recommend any of their vehicles with a diesel to be used for plowing. im going to guess that is due to the weight of the engine/plow on the front suspension is there any other reason i would not want a diesel for plowing if the weight is the only issue id imagine there is enough available to upgrade the front suspension to accommodate the weight of the diesel and the plow so it wouldnt be a problem. -- laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. 2810-5d yonkers road raleigh nc 27604 loballeng@mindspring.com .
