ball joints on Durango bad ? how do you know ?

Q: i dont believe i have ever had ball joints go bad on any vehicle i have had before. after reading all the posts here about it it somewhat scares me to think my wife could be driving on a dangerous durango front end. what signs can i look for to determine if whether or not mine are wearing prematurely we have a 5.9slt 99 we bought used about 4 months ago with 45k miles and we just now have 50k on it. thanks for any tips you can provide. dave **** to reply by email you must first take out myuglysister .

what signs can i look for to determine if whether or not mine are wearing prematurely jack the front-end up. grab the tire at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and try rocking it back and forth. any appreciable movement indicates a worn ball joint. .

what signs can i look for to determine if whether or not mine are wearing prematurely jack the front-end up. grab the tire at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and try rocking it back and forth. any appreciable movement indicates a worn ball joint. actually thats the check for the wheel bearings. to check the ball joints grab the tire at 1000 & 400 and try to rock it back and forth. this isolates the wheel bearings and puts the movement in the ball joints. best to jack it under the lower a-frame or else the spring will keep the ball-joints in tension it works best with two people one to rock the wheel and one to watch for play .
