are all pick-up trucks 4x4 nowadays?
From : Annonymous
Q: depending on where you live and the general common hobbies of your area you will see more 4x4s. in snow country wherer i live 4x4 is so common its hard to find a 2x4 on ther road at the moment. many have a newer 2x4 that they use in the summer and an old beater 4x4 that they use in the winter. in california you may see many more 2x4s then 4 bys. its all personal choice and preferance. .

i think you guys will get a kick out of this. my truck wouldns shift early enough. it would wind out sometimes to 55 before shifting into overdrive. this is on a slight downhill too. the transmission guy couldnt fix it because it was computer related and they couldnt reprogram the computer ecm. dodge reprogramed it but to no avail. i changed speed sensor put a 1000ohm 1/4 watt resistor across the transmission temperature sensor leads while bypassing it. this got rid of it dropping out of lockup but didnt help shift timing. my throttle position sensor checked ok before and after cleaning so it didnt seem to be the problem. i was just getting too much voltage going from the tps back to the ecm. i wasnt about to buy a new computer forget that and i really didnt want ot buy another tps. i however figured i could replace most of the truck myself for less money than hiring dodge to fix it. so i did break down and buy a tps for about $170 from autozone. i really didnt expect it to fix the problem but it was my next logical step. it didnt fix it. then i figured i would take my perfectly good but old tps and set it up on a plate with a dial knob on the stem and a thump type set screw to lock it in position. i then hooked it in series with the new tps you have to hook up the ground wire too for feed off. walla i now can set the shift points depending rather im towing heavy or light or not at all. when empty and putting along easily it will shift into overdrive at 33-34 mph. its great. .

brant wrote i have a 2001 dodge dakota with a 3.9 v6 and 58000 miles. recently when stopped at a stop light the oil pressure needle drops to the bottom. it happens consistently. in fact anytime the engine is at full operating temperature and the engine is idling the oil pressure drops to 0. i took it to my mechanic last week. he took the sending unit off and installed a manual oil pressure gauge. the pressure at idle was indeed 0 psi. at higher rpms he said the pressure would rise to around 40-50 psi. his diagnosis the engine needs to be rebuild. has anyone else had any experience with this situation i would like to at least get some more opinions as it seems premature to have to rebuild an engine at 58000 miles. are there any alternatives to rebuilding the engine thanks for any help in advance brant has your engine oil level increased without explanation im wondering if your engine oil may be severely diluted with gasoline rick .

the other morning i went out the start my 1998 dodge ram 4x4. it wound not strart. it turned over just find. it was very cold and damp out. my coworkers and i pushed it into a warm hangar. i attempted to start it in about 2 hours. it started fine. i drove it around and restarted it several times. i then left it out without starting it for just over 24 hours. again it would not start and again bringing it into a warm are this time for only and hour allowed it to start with ease. the saga continues. i drove and started the engine for about a week even in very cold weather with no problem. then yesterday on christmas eve i went out to start it after it had sat for 24 hours and again it would not start. the temp was above freezing but the humidity was extremely high we were experiencing light rain and fog. this would lead me to believe my problem is moisture related and not temp. has any one experienced this problem does anyone know how to check i took it to a mechanic and he said that i had to have the vehicle where it wouldnt start for him to check it out. tex .

i was trying to remove the dash trim bezel around the radio and figured i had better ask before breaking it. i thought it was just held in by snaps but it does not want to release. does anyone know the secret of getting it off theres a single screw above the trash bag clip just to the left of the glove compartment. remove this screw then grab the hook with your finger and yank it towards you. the spring clip will release. work your way around the bezel - the rest is just held in with clips. note that the bezel incororates the two dash vents on either side of the radio. also - another tip lower the ash tray and cupholders before removing this. once you remove the bezel theres several electrical connectors to disconnect. with the cupholder lowered it gives you a shelf to reset the bezel on while you disconnect the various connectors. if you dont do this the metal spring clips will scratch up the faces leaving an unsightly mess. dont worry about labelling the connectors - theyre all physically different shapes/sizes and only fit one way. .

the use of sand in the bed isnt relegated to 4x2s. my dad and brother both have put sand tubes in the bed of their 4x4s. it helps keep the rear wheels planted helps to get the tires down through the snow to pavement where they can get traction and keep from sliding out. on 21 dec 2005 181241 -0800 aniramca@yahoo.com wrote i wonder if most of the newly built pick-up trucks domestic or imported are made in four wheel drive i recall in the old days that during the winter pick-up trucks usually have problem with tractions and they have to buy bags of sand to make sure that the rear wheels are not spinning. what about the new trucks and pick-ups are they now front wheel drive all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive i hardly hear someone complaining that they have to load their pick up truck with bags of sand any longer. is this still the practice during winter months .
