a 4x4 is an option. since you pay in fuel mileage if you dont need it dont get it. i wonder if most of the newly built pick-up trucks domestic or imported are made in four wheel drive i recall in the old days that during the winter pick-up trucks usually have problem with tractions and they have to buy bags of sand to make sure that the rear wheels are not spinning. what about the new trucks and pick-ups are they now front wheel drive all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive i hardly hear someone complaining that they have to load their pick up truck with bags of sand any longer. is this still the practice during winter months .

only does it in second gear never third-or first if any chance of other gears doing same thing-check the front slider coupling im assuming you have an old process front diff- dana 44 actuator for vacuum loss hoses-etc hydroplaning- check that all tires are nearly same rolling radius remove one -make a mark on the ground-roll exactly one revolution-make another mark-check all others if you have very much difference even though tires say they are same size your truck will try to squiggle and catch up whenever it gets the chance... side to side -sometimes front to rear .

orginally posted to alt.autos.dodge but i dont think that all feeds include that group intermittenly all electrical accessories cut out simultaneously blowers radio wipers windows. usually just for a moment but sometimes longer. though the blower motors shut off the power light for the climate control remains illuminated. instrument cluster and other instrumentation temperature/compass are unaffected. what would be the likely cause of this van has about 68k miles and the original battery if that could be the problem though it does start just fine. allan .

sorry max but you said that it will not monitor most fuel problems and it in fact will. and in fact it wont. here is a short list of what the pcm has no clue about fuel filter fuel pump fuel lines lean run condition fuel injector spray pattern clogged fuel injectors failing fuel injectors it knows if it fired the injector but it doesnt know if that event went well misfire codes fuel pressure fuel leaks these are really just repeates from above grade of fuel is not a delivery problem if water is in the fuel the diesels know this but not the gassers afaik or if the fuel is even capable of igniting as in varnished or aged. again non of this is a delivery problem absolute fuel pressure is the only thing that it will not monitor but just about every other fuel delivery problem will cause symptoms that it can hence the code he is getting. um yeah except the problem you mentioned first was a failed fuel pump which is not monitored. it depends on what failed. a complete failure will not be detected but a partial failure very low pressure would show up as lean run and misfire codes. this is directly related to fuel pressure which is not monitored. further if it was enough to get the truck going but not enough to properly spray from the injector there would be an atomization problem which is not monitored. did you forget about misfire codes. it would also probably result in rich run codes that would be false but would indicate a fuel delivery problem. you are of course correct that he should get the codes before proceeding but to say that most fuel problems are not monitored is wrong. its absolutely correct. the only thing the pcm knows about the fuel is injector timing and a/f mixture via sensors. and fuel delivery problems severe enough to cause running difficulties are doing it why max because it will cause the very mixture problems you just said so i guess that they are monitored indirectly after all. now if you had said directly monitored you would have been much more accurate but since you like to jump on me for crap like this what comes around goes around. nah i just jump on you for crap where you are wrong. if that were only true but we both know better than that. have a merry christmas max. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

update....... well i found out why the oil seal was leaking. after pulling the axle out for the second time i decided to really take my time and look for the bigger issue. before pulling the axle out i removed the cad cover and observed the axles as i rotated the hub. to my surprise i noticed the axle was not turning symmetrically were the intermediate axle met the stub axle. for my discussion the intermediate axle runs from the cad to the diff the stub axle is from the cad to the u-joint and the outer axle is from the u-joint to the hub. after pulling the axle out i noticed the bushing from the end of the stub axle was gone and the hole worn badly. upon reassembling with a new axle a noticed everything was fine until i tightened the three hub bolts. the hub pressed the axles together so tight they would not turn freely as the cad. i removed the hub and reinstalled it several time to find no improvement. i now know where the old bushing went. seeing as the hub was only a few months old i took it back to autozone and got my money back. i then bought a high quality unit from another more reputable parts store. the hub fit properly with about 1/16inch end clearance between the axles. the noise is still there but im guessing the ground remains of the bushing has done a number on the bearings in the differential. the moral of the story its not worth the $30 savings by purchasing sub standard parts from autozone. i already have $150 into axles and seals and i still have to fix the differential. p.s. when i took the hub back to autozone they said. oh there is a hold on that one. ill give you a refund gee i wonder why!!!! .
