Which is number 2 cylinder on '99 5.9l? Emissions question

Q: i failed emissions with a cylinder 2 misfire detected. i was going to change the plug out and see if it cures it. any other suggestions as to what it might be how can i clear that code out so i can be retested can i just disco the battery for a while .

i failed emissions with a cylinder 2 misfire detected. i was going to change the plug out and see if it cures it. any other suggestions as to what it might be how can i clear that code out so i can be retested can i just disco the battery for a while anything in the secondary circuit related to #2 cylinder is suspect... spark plug wire cap. check the plug wire for continuity -- it should be the same resistance as the others and for damaged insulation. replace it if there are any obvious defects. sometimes you can detect not-so-obvious insulation breakdowns by checking at night or in a darkened garage with the engine running. check the cap for carbon tracking to ground or an adjacent terminal. i prefer caps that have ribbing around the terminals inside -- that creates a longer path to adjacent cylinders and to ground. also a ventilated cap will vent-out any ozone build-up. bryan .

as they said number 2 is the front on the passengers side. drivers side is all odd 1357 and passengers side is all even 2468. and the firing order in clockwise direction on the distributor cap is 18436572. same as chevy. if you happen to change the dist. cap and get the wires crossed up this will help. just trace the wires from the corresponding cylinders and reconnect. just make sure the 1 wire is in the correct position. .
