i need some help/ recommendations for parts. ive got an 84 d150 custom with the slant 6 225 motor in it. it has a 3spd with od tranny. the motor has over 265 thousand miles on it and finally needs a new carb. should i just go with the holley 1945 or step up to a carter bbs ive read the carter is better but i cant find a site online that sells it or goes into detail really about what makes it better. also when i go to change the carb should i hook it back up as an electric choke or keep using the manual choke on it. its been over 10 yrs since the truck has had an electric choke. id also like to replace the clutch because its still the original one. can anyone recommend to me a company that makes a quality brand new clutch i dont want to get one thats a refab product. the truck is all original besides the brake system i just redid the entire brake system this past summer. and normal items you change at tune up time. the only thing that leaks is the power steering fluid but its done that since 86. .

hmm.. that brings up an interesting question... i wonder how you know if the battery needs replacing if the trailer passes you on the road it probably needs replacement!!!! g pulling the cable should let you hear the electric brakes engage or use a volt meter im sure theres a lot of these with dead batteries around. ive got a friend up in the bay area who had a hitch that bolted together. he never thought anything of it until one night he was pulling his open car trailer the bolts in the hitch had loosened up and finally fell out. next thing he sees is his trailer scraping the barrier on 101. fortunately it was late at night and no traffic next day he got one of those brake activation devices installed so if you have a truck hitch that bolts together check it once in a while and when you hook up the cable hook it to something besides the hitch cause if the hitch was to fall off the truck for some reason it wont activate politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .

on sun 01 feb 2004 015718 gmt ken shearer331@earthlink.net wrote i will check on that tomorrow. incidentally how much damage will incur if this was run like this. i have no clue how long it has been since whatever happened happened. you do not want to run it like that.. when you mix oil & water the oil cant be an effective lubricant... shearer331@earthlink.net posted here is the situation i have a 98 4 cylinder dakota. actually my wife does. well i go to check the oil the other day and find oil on the underside of the hood and all over the passenger side of the engine. i check the oil and find nothing but a chocolate milkshake substance all the way up to the dipstick opening. first thought was blown headgasket but i have no clue how that would happen. the truck has never overheated no detrimental running issues no smoking the coolant is perfect. someone told me to watch out for a cracked head but they dont just crack for no reason. any clues. i dont have the time to tear this motor apart 2 car-2 job family. any one hear of this happening or care to shed some light here thanks ken it *might* not be as grim as youre imagining. i had the same thing happen to a older camaro. changed oil and would turn to a tan froth pdq. first thought i had was plugged pcv valve but no such luck. hose connected and blew clear. compression and rad. pressure test ok. eventually found the underside of the pcv hose had become gooey-soft and was collapsing like a letter c under the slightest vacuum. new hose one more oil change and everything was back to normal. mac .
