What to use in 98 Durango transfer case?

From : dynosaur

Q: i recently replaced almost all of the vital fluids in a used durango i just purchased with 79k miles on it. anyway ive got an 01 dakota and in its owners manual it said to use atf+4 in the transfer case so since no one has that except the dealer i opted for the atf+3 to use in the 98s transfer case. when i bought all the lubes at auto zone i also bought a haynes repair manual for the 98 durango. in the haynes manual it says to use dexron ii in the transfer case. so is the atf+3 going to be harmful to the transfer case do i immediately need to drain the transfer case and put in dexron ii or atf+4 or is there some better lube out there that i should use the transfer case my durango has is the one which offers a full-time and part-time setting so im sure thats a pricey jewel that needs the best i give it. thanks in advance for any answers. ben .

its around $4/qt here. was it higher than that before silveram wrote ben just use the atf 4. the price dropped dramatically at the dealer so it doesnt pay not to. .

you should be fine with 3+ but dexron ii is cheaper thats what i use. i recently replaced almost all of the vital fluids in a used durango i just purchased with 79k miles on it. anyway ive got an 01 dakota and in its owners manual it said to use atf+4 in the transfer case so since no one has that except the dealer i opted for the atf+3 to use in the 98s transfer case. when i bought all the lubes at auto zone i also bought a haynes repair manual for the 98 durango. in the haynes manual it says to use dexron ii in the transfer case. so is the atf+3 going to be harmful to the transfer case do i immediately need to drain the transfer case and put in dexron ii or atf+4 or is there some better lube out there that i should use the transfer case my durango has is the one which offers a full-time and part-time setting so im sure thats a pricey jewel that needs the best i give it. thanks in advance for any answers. ben --- outgoing mail is certified virus free. checked by avg anti-virus system http//www.grisoft.com. version 6.0.729 / virus database 484 - release date 7/27/2004 .
