Q: max. it seems to me that i saw my first roller lifter on a warranty job i was doing on a chrysler 5th ave 1988 i beleive that is the mid yr change im not sure but i think some had it and some didnt but after that yr all had the roller design probably. my response was more to note that it wasnt started with the magnum engines but well before production of the la series ended. my recollection puts the rollers in 87 but i could be wrong. max life liberty and the pursuit of any jackass that threatens it. embellished usnavy slogan .

im reasonably sure that it leaked out the low side. if i take the cap off it starts hissing and dribbling oil. if i can get in there with a tire valve stem tool i could probably check to see if the schrader valve is in all the way and not loose from vibration. .

my horn broke off so i need to replace it and instead of the rather pathetic half-hearted mewling that the original gave out when called on to perform i thought i might get something with a little more authority. nothing outrageous just a little louder and a little more authoritative. pep boys has some stuff in the $30 to $40 range but they didnt look very impressive. any suggestions - magnusfarce p.s. yes i saw the post about the air horns. i dont need anything that involved. .

ill follow up on your advice. thanks for the impressive effort. - magnusfarce two words gear lube this is pretty much a completely neglected maintenance item on vehicles and i would think there is a good chance it has the original gear lube from the factory still. you didnt mention if it was 4wd or 2wd so here are the capacities for the vehicle in case your owners manual is missing or destroyed. you can visit the vehicle application guide on my website to get the correct lube weights for your vehicle as well. i didnt post them because they are amsoil products and didnt want to get flamed for posting an adv. however the weights should apply to any brand lube you go with. if you arent sure which differential you have check in the glove box for a sticker with the details. capacities engine turbowithout filter..........10.0 quarts cooling system initial fill..........24.0 quarts automatic transmission initial fill..........4.0 quarts1 automatic transmission 46rh initial fill..........4.0 quarts1 automatic transmission 47rh initial fill..........4.0 quarts12 automatic transmission total fill 3 speed ..........8.6 quarts 4 speed ..........11.0 quarts manual transmission nv3500..........4.2 pints manual transmission ax-15..........6.5 pints manual transmission getrag g-360..........7.0 pints manual transmission nv4500..........8.0 pints differential with 7.25 ring gear front..........3.0 pints3 differential 2wd with dana 60 rear..........6.3 pints3 differential 2wd with dana 70 rear..........7.0 pints differential 2wd with dana 80 rear..........6.8 pints4 differential 4wd with dana 60 rear..........7.2 pints5 differential 4wd with dana 70 rear..........7.6 pints differential 4wd with dana 80 rear..........10.0 pints differential with dana 60 front..........6.3 pints6 transfer casenp231 233..........2.5 pints transfer casenp241hd..........6.5 pints transfer casenp241..........4.6 pints dan benedix howling motor sports www.howlingmotorsports.com an independant amsoil dealer view our new online quote tool! its fast easy and actually kind of fun i have just acquired a 94 ram 2500 with a manual tranny and the cummins 5.9l diesel engine. the truck has about 250000 miles on it runs well but im not sure of its maintenance history. if i take it to a garage for inspection/evaluation what things should they and i be looking for with respect to the engine here are two or three pressing questions id appreciate some help with 1 how do these diesel engines wear and what tests can be done to evaluate the engines condition are things like compression tests or leakdown tests meaningful in this case 2 without knowing anything about the engine aside from its mileage what servicing should i plan to have done aside from the obvious light maintenance like oil filters cooling system flush etc. im thinking about things like injector cleaning or replacement tranny flush and such. 3 aside from the engine what else on the truck should i be focusing on i know enough to answer these questions for gasoline engines but diesels are a new thing for me. i would be very grateful for any advice from experienced owners. ive inherited this truck and would like to keep and use it for a long time. my goal is to find out what kind of shape its in and learn enough to make some wise decisions about repairing and maintaining it. thanks - magnusfarce .

filling up the tank with gasoline and driving the vehicle is all you need the gas cleans the injectors all that after market stuff is a total waste it depends on what gasoline youre using... ive had occasions where a not-so-smoothly running engine was helped out after a couple bottles of techron. yup techron valvoline syn-tech or mopar fi cleaner! mike of course - you could always go with that shell v-power crap... keep your injectors clean at the expense of your tanks sending unit .

From : dave

probably. my response was more to note that it wasnt started with the magnum engines but well before production of the la series ended. well looking at this page http//www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html it first says that the new magnum block affords roller lifters. later on it puts the introduction of roller lifters at 88 for the 318 89 for the 360 and 92/93 for the magnum block on the 318/360 respectively. hence my confusion on associating roller lifters with the magnum engines. apparently the blocks were modified in 88/89 to accomodate the lifters and that design carried over to the magnum engines. .
