most of the time it seems people recommend not buying the extended warranty. the rationale is that ou can take the money the warranty would cost and invest it. then use that money and its proceeds for any repairs that are needed... in my case i bought the 6 year 100k mile extended one for my 98 ram and its more than paid for itself. theyve done two rear end rebuilds fixed the broken exhaust manifold bolts replaced the intake manifold gasket and most recently replaced the drivers side head... all between 65k and 90k...... also there have been times in here when various sources were cited for dc warranties with different prices. i paid about half the sticker for mine - the dealer wanted something like $1300 and i paid around $800. like any other thing on a vehicle purchase you should be able to negotiate the price of the service contract... on fri 5 sep 2003 212042 -0400 03ramhemi critacconospam@comcast.net wrote this must have been discussed in this group a 1000 times before so please excuse me for asking again. im sitting here looking at the latest brochure from dc about the warranty upgrades for my 2003 ram qc and wondering should i or shouldnt i. i can say for the most part i have owned cc/dc all my life and never purchased the upgrade but after one bad experience with a gm product i starting to think that it may not be a bad idea. any thoughts .

whatever you decide if you decide to purchase a warranty buy the chrysler factory contract. you dont know if third party warranty companies will be around when you need them. i purchased a warranty from warranty gold on my sable that i just traded towards the new ram1500. i tried to cancel the contract and get my refund. warranty gold technically their claim administrator nwic just went bankrupt. im out my $350 refund as well as my $1100 original contract price. imagine if i needed an engine or trans id be eating all of it. plus losing the money on my ram i wasnt going to buy a warranty but the dealer did a bait and switch game where i received 3.9% financing if i purchased the added 7/70 warranty or 6.9% without. the payments were the same. i figured that i might as well let them make their profit on the contract as long as i got the lower rate. i now have bumper to bumper for 7/70. the good is that my ram 1500 4.7 2wd is the first vehicle ive ever owned that didnt require any trips to the dealer during the first few months. i have 7000 miles on it since may and have only returned for an oil change at 3900 miles. i hope it keeps up its track record. .

first off it is not a warranty upgrade it is a service contract. those are two very different things. i purchased the maximum care service contract for my 03 durango because it was only $1200 7/75 $100 deductible because it was offered by dc not a third party and it seemed like cheap insurance. the maximum care covers a bunch of stuff so it is almost bumper to bumper type coverage but not quite. to decide if the service contract is worth it you have to answer the following questions 1. will you keep the vehicle for the life of the contract if you get a new vehicle very few years then dont bother. contrary to the salesmans story it wont add any value if you sell the vehicle. 2. is paying the money today better than paying it tomorrow for the repair time value dodge trannies can go out like all the rest especially if you dont do the maint on them. the cost of a single tranny replacement can easily exceed the cost of the service contract. 3. is the contract offered by dc or a third party with dc the service should be better and claims paid faster and if they go out of business you have more to worry about than just the contract. with third party companies they can be slow to pay more easily refuse coverage and go out of business ala warranty gold. 4. read the fine print and make sure you know what you are buying. many people think they are buying an extended warranty instead of a service contract. so when it comes time to use the contract they dont understand their coverage and they get mad. then they post to groups saying how the got bsd by the dealer etc. and that theyll never buy anything from that pos company again. being informed about what you are buying is key. scott collins 03 durango r/t atlantic blue newcastle wa this must have been discussed in this group a 1000 times before so please excuse me for asking again. im sitting here looking at the latest brochure from dc about the warranty upgrades for my 2003 ram qc and wondering should i or shouldnt i. i can say for the most part i have owned cc/dc all my life and never purchased the upgrade but after one bad experience with a gm product i starting to think that it may not be a bad idea. any thoughts .

how involved is the retrofit kit the timing belt snapped on my 1997 caravan se 2.4l -4 cyl. pity me. i am in the process of replacing it so i can do a compression check in hopes that nothing got bent/damaged/destroyed too badly -so you are saying there is a chance -dumb and dumber. i felt that the tensioner had too much play in the bearing so i went to the dealership to get a replacement. however the parts guy searched long and hard and determined that the mfg no longer makes the tensioner instead there is a retrofit kit with a new style tensioner that requires replacing the timing belt covers. does anyone know what is really involved with this retrofit also how is the original old style tensioner adjusted im thinking of just using it to determine if a catastrophic engine failure occurred new engine smell. -- derrik .

thanks. i would have not thought of that. btw my ignition wire went out and was replaced but now my lights dim at the stop lights as it was before it died and the wire was replaced about 9 months ago. i know...it sounds like its time to put a new van around the wire but funds are lacking. ill have the voltage checked at both areas. fuel guage never goes past 3/4 so im always careful there. ive had the van since 96. thanks so much. john me http//www.doobfan.com/photos/rich/vegas/saturday/sat022.jpg on sat 6 sep 2003 162302 -0400 tbone fatchance@noway.now wrote it sounds more like your gauges are getting too high a voltage. fist thing that you need to do is check the alternators voltage regulator and make sure that you are around or under 14 volts with the engine running. iirc your van also has a voltage limiter behind the instrument panel to limit the voltage on the instruments to 5 volts. this is probably what is failing and making your gauges show higher values. this should also be effecting your fuel gauge so i would watch out for that. .
