Q: i replaced the batterys on my 97 turbo diesel last weekend. they were the original from-the-factory units so i expect after 170000 miles they were due for replacement. the truck wouldnt crank on a couple of cold mornings recently though although after i charged them up - everything seemed to work fine at least for another few weeks until the next time it wouldnt start. so the sears die-hard guy tells me i need an alternator replacement. he gives me this little printout of a test that indicates that the alternator has a bad waveform and needs replacement. his mechanic can do it later in the day with a napa alternator. i passed. from all indications i have the alternator is fine. the voltmeter fluctuates a but when cold - i presume due to the air heat grid - but after the engine warms it stays rock solid at slightly over 14 . just like it has always done. im inclined to think i dont have a problem. comments appreciated. tia. jim hall assuming you have a decent voltmeter. turn on the lights and heater blower. lights on bright fan on wide open. then check the voltage at about 1000 rpm. if its the same as with the stuff off you should have a good alternator. be sure to check the voltage right on one of the batteries. just because the voltage is there doesnt mean that the alternator is good. most meters will not show you a bad winding or diode at the high frequency that an alternator operates at and a high powered alternator can fool most meters. one of my multi-meters can measure frequency used to calibrate home generators and may detect a bad winding or diode but most voms dont have that ability since they are calibrated for 60 cycles ac which is way below what an alternator would be putting out even at an engine speed of 1000 rpm. you stupid fuck hahahahahahahahaha what a fucking idiot. alternators do not put out ac really do you have a clue how an alternator works moron. all an alternator can create is ac which is then converted to dc by the rectifier diodes within it but this is not the point. the point is that if a field coil or diode fails a much larger than desired ac signal will form on top of the now reduced dc one. a dc volt meter simply takes an average voltage and displays it and the problem is that the regulator does the same thing and will simply boost the field voltage to compensate for the lower dc signal and if the alternator is big enough to handle it and i would suspect that it is in a diesel application you will see no problem with a dc meter but the problem still exists. a standard ac meter is calibrated for 60 cycles and the ac signal being formed due to the defective alternator is probably way over 3000 so a meter calibrated for 60 would see it as your iq and show zero. unfortunately the battery and most of the electronics will see it and i dont think that it will be beneficial to any of them not to mention how much harder you are working the damaged alternator which will cause its premature complete failure and usually at the worst possible time. jesus mary joseph the three wise men all fucking twelve apostles lazarus mary magdeline mary the mother of james pontius pilate and the centurion at the foot of the cross...............you are one stupid son of a bitch despite your retarded attack the one that once again showed his stupidity is you. now get back in your corner put on your dunce cap stick your thumb back up your ass and sulk like the pos that you are until one of your friends if you still have any comes in to comfort you and of course gfy! -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

those dipples are there to line up the tag bracket then the tag goes on the bracket they come with the tag bolts and mounting bolts there are 2 different ones that list for your vehicle depending on body codes 55076597ad and 55077616aa glenn beasley chrysler tech i recently got an 03 dakota. the lower half of the front bumper is the hard plastic material. it does not have screws or holes to mount a license plate. but there are two dimples in the plastic that look like they are intended to be drilled for mounting a plate. is that the intention are there special screws that can be used in this plastic to mount a plate kevin mcdermit .

until below 20f and then definitely at 0f but i work nightshifts and it has begun to dip into the teens. i dont have a place to plug in at work. i was wondering if this is a worry ive yet to use my block heater and last winter went through a few spells of 0f weather. ive simply cycled the grid heaters twice before starting when it was really cold out and havent had a problem starting or any white smoke. however you definately want to take it easy when its that cold. if its at home plug it in. it shouldnt be a worry at work - as long as your commute is sufficient to bring the engine fully up to temperature. it will take quite a while for that big chunk of iron to cool down. mileage intervals some of which i dont understand. what do i definitely need to do like change the oil every 3 thousand and rotate the tires and now empty the water collector as well as the fuel filter. the maintenance manual can be a little confusing because its got intervals for both federal 305hp and california 235hp engines. if you have the 305hp engine the high output - look on the drivers side of the plastic valve cover for a white label that will list the engines hp rating the interval for schedule b that 95% of owners fall into is 7500 miles for oil and filter changes. this is also a good time to rotate tires. a good practice is to fill out the info. in that maintenance book and staple the receipts for the fluids/parts to each page. this creates a complete documentation of all your maintenance and will ensure that your dealership cant question your maintenance if a warranty dispute should arise. .
