Q: all real trucks have a front differential. did i miss something bg denny i assumed it was 2wd. did i miss something denny wrote i cant recommend anybody but dont forget youre going to have to change the carrier in the front diff also. it is a different offset from the 3.55 to the 3.92. the rear uses the same carrier for both ratios. denny i was wondering if anyone could recommend a good massachusetts installer for upgrading my differential gearing going from 3.55 to 3.92. i seem to be having trouble locating a shop that specializes in drivetrain type of work. thanks erik .

on fri 23 jan 2004 035304 gmt chris cchrista@rochester.rr.com wrote if i am pulling it in overdrive on the thruway or wherever going 65mph it feels like i have to almost floor it to get enough to keep a consistent speed sometimes. especially if there are some hills not steep. sometimes i have to punch it to get back to the speed i was kind of if i had cruise control on this is an enclosed trailer around 2000 pounds with sleds.i noticed if i turn the overdrive off it seems much smoother and no problems of course the engine is revving higher. i understand there is a lot of drag with enclosed trailers. but this isnt a lot of weight. when exactly are you supposed to turn the overdrive off i know in the city i should turn it off. can i turn it off at speeds that high will it make gas mileage a lot worse by the way it was very windy today. thanks a lot. we have a 99 ram qc with 5.9/auto/3.55 gears... pulling a 5000 trailer we find that our mileage is best if we just leave od locked out... as you have found it seems to require more gas pedal to maintain speed in od even on flat ground... i dont see this as a power thing as much as a tranny thing... i figure that you may/may not be hurting your truck to tow in od but you know that you cant hurt it by driving with od locked out... mac .

look at the red round tag on the transfer case 231 is part time & 242 is full time. it should say on the glove box option list also. the glove box lable had nothing listed about the transfer case unless it is some kind of code. it does say std 4speed overdrive for the trans though. not looking forward to climbing under the car its 14 out and snowy. five detents should be 242 ft. it most likely has the wrong knob. dick hi i just purchased a 1999 durango with the 5.9l and 4 wheel drive. according to the owners manual there are two options for the transercase in this vehicle. 1 2h4hn4l 2 2h 4pt4ftn4lpt i cannot tell which one i have and heres why 1. you can physically feel 5 detents in the transfer case shifter. 2. the sticker on the sun visor refers to 2h4pt4ftn4lpt 3. the dash lights consist of a yellow 4 part time light and a green 4 full time light or no light for 2h. this all seems to indicate that i have the second transfer case that i listed. the main item that makes me un sure is that the knob on the transfercase shifter only lists 2h4hn4l. i am begining to wonder if maybe the knob or the sun visor were replaced with the wrong one. also after going into any 4 wheel drive mode and then shifting to 2h the 4pt light stays on even though it is not in 4 wheel drive. if you shut the car off and go out the next day the light is off. if you shut the car off and then restart it the light stays on. i think this is just a mis adjusted position indicator switch but im not sure. any help would be appreciated. thanks rob .

water pump bearing 2001 ram 1500 v8 5.9 being from south florida i dont run into this problem often. i was up north twice and when the temperature gets below 50 my engine makes a loud whistling noise. it seems to vary with accelerator setting beginning at around 40 mph all the way up to 70 mph. my first thoughts are a fuel pump problem. any ideas .

yup - same with my 91 dakota 318 - a $15 part if i remeber correctly. do you have a tach does it bounce around at all driven off the same coil. computer thinks the engine isnt running so it shuts it off ! mike wrote my 89 w150 did that it was the pick up coil situated w/the distributor. good luck. mike hi group-- hello! been away for while need some advice... my 82 w150 318 2 bbl 105k miles ran out of gas a while back. filled er with gas changed the fuel filter and went on my way. truck died after running 15 minutes. replaced the fuel pump check the line between the carb and the pump--was clean. truck will fire right up cold but dies still after 15 minutes. let it sit a while starts up dies after 15 minutes. any ideas where to start looking for the problem maybe someone pulled a prank and wired a timer in-line some where! thanks! cordobaman .

ack! my a/c is acting up in my 2001 dodge ram i am beyond 36k miles & i need some advice. it blows either hot air or cold air...nothing or not much in between. my compressor always kicks on. the hot air always blows fine however the cold air will sometimes blow hot...actually about 50% of the time...and when it does blow cold itll switch to blowing hot usually within a couple minutes. sometimes turning it off & back on again will make it blow cold again...for just a few more minutes though. i took it to pep boys and they said they think its a problem with the vent door under the dash or something like that. i called the dealer and they think it might be something else no description given. i want to get some ideas of what it might be before i take it in to get it fixed and get a $2000 bill slight exaggeration there. anyway...what do you guys think thanks! steve .

big al wrote what was the first year for common rail injection in the dodge diesel what was the first year for the dual mass flywheel al 03 was the first year for the common rail injection on the cummins. has dodge ever used a dual mass flywheel i know ford and gm have used them. are you looking for a new truck or used either way i dont think youll regret getting the cummins. check out the torque curves. they are so flat they should call them torque lines. the cummins website still has the 03 specs advertised so they are probably the same for 04. the 03 standard output gives you over 450 ft-lbs from 1300 to 2900 rpm. peak torque is 460 at 1400 rpm. if thats not enough to haul your race car get the high output. it peaks at 555 ft-lbs at 1400 rpm and stays right about there through 2800 rpm. http//www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/products/dodgeram/index.cfm http//www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/products/dodgeram/cummins24vturbodiesel.cfm http//www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/products/dodgeram/faq/index.cfm .

my neighbour has a 2003 cummins h0 automatic. he was telling me that he has trouble getting the trans out of park when the trans is cold. the truck has to run for a few minutes then he can shift it into drive. is he parking on a hill if so tell him do stop set the e-brake then shift to park. upon starting shift to drive release e-brake and go. this is true of any auto trans - you bind up the park pawl pawk otherwise. by the way - he does realize theres a brake interlock solenoid that only lets the trans shift out of park when the brake pedal is depressed man did i feel stupid the first time i rented one of those cars! i must have inadvertenly stepped on the brake when i drove away from the rental place. stopped to get gas. it wasnt pretty. rob .
