Q: i have a 1992 cummins 4x4.great truck but i noticed when i pull my 3400lb boat the truck seems to shudder when i go from a stop to a hill.its an automatic but its just like when you start out in second gearmanualit is in low gear though.i have tried putting it in 1st with the same effect.it has a 3.5 axle ratio.any suggestions welcome. check your drive shaft u-joints and hanger bearing. sometimes you cant tell if the u-joint is bad just by looking at them. after you remove the shaft you may find that you have one u-joint that is very stiff. .

ouch!!!! sorry to hear about the damage to the truck but glad that you are ok. if that was my nissan it probably would have went through the windshield and killed me. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving well the score is now simmons 1 deer 0! on the way to the shop this am at about 520 a large doe decided to end it all. i was cooking along about 65 minding my own business btw when from out of nowhere she leapt into the path of my new ram. wham! i saw her cartwheel across the left lane and into the median and as i continued on looking in my rear view mirror she did about 20 revolutions before coming to a halt in the grass. i continued on for about two miles to the shop and pulled into the parking lot and inspected the ram. amidst a puddle of power steering fluid i saw the grille front fascia bumperleft front fender and headlight smashed. when i raised the hood i saw the remains of the condenser intercooler and trans cooler along with the bottom half of the ps pump that was missing. i havent got the estimate from our body shop yet but i reckon it will be at least $3-$4k to put the ol ram back into fighting condition. damned deer! ^ mike .

possible. . . . budd spinman wrote vacuum leak just a thought set the timing to 10 degrees btdc and check that your carb is giving you a healthy shot of fuel from the accelerator pump. budd guy lee wrote this problem has me confused/frustrated. i have a 1987 dodge ram w150 4x4 with a 318 2 bbl holley carb; automatic transmission. recently the truck died while i was driving home from work. over a couple of months of troubleshooting and replacing various engine-related components like the carburetor the distributor the spark control unit the timing chain and gear set i found that all that was wrong was a wire. i assume that while putting things back on the truck i dont have something set correctly. i have confirmed that the timing is 8 degrees before tdc according to the vehicle specs. while the vehicle is idling it runs like a top. the problem im having is when im driving up hills mostly. the engine will hesitate and miss. it also has a tremendous loss in power. does anyone have any suggestions for me thanks for your help guy lee .

hey guys im having a bit of trouble with my girlfriends 94 f*rd thunder bird.. i really would like to keep my problem with you all and not the ford jerks... its the 4.6l v8 with 80000 miles. it starts ups and idles smoothly... if you try to give it any bit of gas it tries to die and sputter if you try to open it up even more it pops out of the top... with the popping out of the top im thinking timing component is f-ed up.... but im also thinking the cats might be clogged not letting it run at any rpm other than idle.. we did have it on the road a few months ago and the 02 sensors were bad and was running lean...we have replaced the 02 sensors and the codes are still popping up once and a while. we have replaced the fuel filter plugs and injectors. please give me feed back on this.. and the winner to the problem gets a nude picture of my girlfriend !! just kidding shed kill me just to make this not a ford only post i must tell you about my dodge ram.. its still running great and i recently put the hughes 1214 cam into it . i love it . 214/218 512/524 . works well in a 318. i cant wait till i do the heads and that cam can really breath !! nathan austin tx 98 dodge ram sport 318 .

there is a fuse you can pull that allows higher revs no limiter but suposely shuts off odometer and makes your lights flash voiding your warraty anyone heard anything on it no. it quite simply aint gonna happen. the thing that really gives it away is there is no way in hell chrysler could legally cancel your warranty for doing such a thing. js .

ig you will derive benefit from synthetic oil only in very limited applications. first of all all oil is dino oil. it all starts life as plain ol crude. synthetic is synthetic by virtue of a special refining and chemical alteration process which reorients and standardizes the oil molecule. then a special additive package is added which is what makes it synthetic. if you drive in very cold or very hot conditions and put an abnormal strain on your engine then synthetic may have some value. if you wish to extend your drain intervals and are willing to have your oil periodically analyzed for condition then synthetic may have some value. by and large for the average consumer who changes their oil on a regular i.e 3k mile basis and who use a quality conventional oil synthetic is really of little benefit. let the flames begin! ^ chryco service manager member sae thats the question... what do you think will my engine live longer or run better with synthetic i .

roy wrote glad to see that you are okay. there have been numerous problems with deer ill chime in on congrats for your survival. i suppose the new ram gets one new victory mark on the door for this encounter around here. moose further north have been coming through the windshield when hit. interesting story ive heard about saabs. dont know if its true but still a cool story. saab tests for moose actually caribou or reindeer i think hits which are apparently common in sweden. moose and caribou both have very long legs so the idea is in event of a collision the front end of the car is designed to allow the beast to slide up over the hood and windshield and over the car rather than through it! they have some sort of test dummy reindeer/moose/caribou that they test the vehicle with. hey like i said a great story no matter its truth! smh .

towing with a halfton id put synthetic in the differential for sure. js i guess i will just return my synthetic bottle to walmart. by the way i tow a 3500 lbs boat/trailer combo occasionally. i ig you will derive benefit from synthetic oil only in very limited applications. first of all all oil is dino oil. it all starts life as plain ol crude. synthetic is synthetic by virtue of a special refining and chemical alteration process which reorients and standardizes the oil molecule. then a special additive package is added which is what makes it synthetic. if you drive in very cold or very hot conditions and put an abnormal strain on your engine then synthetic may have some value. if you wish to extend your drain intervals and are willing to have your oil periodically analyzed for condition then synthetic may have some value. by and large for the average consumer who changes their oil on a regular i.e 3k mile basis and who use a quality conventional oil synthetic is really of little benefit. let the flames begin! ^ chryco service manager member sae thats the question... what do you think will my engine live longer or run better with synthetic i .

you have about 800 pounds payload capacity as you describe your weight and gvw sticker. there is also a gcvw gross combined vehicle weight that deals with towed loads. if your gcvw is 10000 and your truck weighs 5000 loaded you can pull a 5000 pound trailer as long as you do not load too much on the hitch. ten percent would work with 500# on the hitch but now your truck would have 5500# on it but it would still be under the 5800# rating. kevin... how does this gvw stuff work. i went to our local land fill the other day and i happen to take note of the weight on the way out there scale said 2200 kg 48xx lbs. my door frame sticker says 26xx kgs 56xx lbs gvw. i have been looking at travel trailers and i am concerned about this gvw stuff. one note the gvw on the door sticker also lists tire size at 15 came from the factory with 16 will the tire size increase give me a higher gvw. my understanding about gvw is the total combined weight of the whole rig truck trailer wife kids beer beer beer did i mention beer.am i correct if so i can only have a trailer that weighs about 100 lb no wife no kids need room for beer please clarify this sombody kevin campbell .

hi i am not sure if they have this on the 94 model or not but i have seen this cause the problem that you are describing on other models. look on top of the egr valve there should be a black plastic switch with three bolts holding it on. it also has a wire connected to it. if you car has this set up the remove the 3 bolts and set the switch to the side. dont just unplug the wire because that will not work. now test the car to see how it drives. if this seems to fix the problem take the switch of and take it to a grinder and grind down the metal tab about the thickness of a finger nail a bolt it back up. if it still does not run right grind more off till you get the car were it runs the way it should. i hope this helps. rick hey guys im having a bit of trouble with my girlfriends 94 f*rd thunder bird.. i really would like to keep my problem with you all and not the ford jerks... what are you grinding how does this grinding make it run right i know it has to do with the exhaust gas reticulation. but i am not entirely sure how that part of the engine works. .

all the whiners got what they wanted. they couldnt accept that the 2500 diesel was the same as the 3500 dually except for the extra 2 tires. now they want to whine that they are forced to buy the 3500 i assume that is the only difference too. dodge has basically forced you to buy the 3500 now if you want the camper package. .

could you clarify the different setups of the infinity sound system from what ive read it seems that it has changed a few times from 98 to 03. some have said that there is a pre-amp built into the back of the raz head unit if you have the infinity system. i have heard that there is an amp located in the passenger kick panel. i have seen pics of the premium infinity speakers both with and with out amps built into the speakers. regardless i like the stock look of the raz unit and would not put an aftermarket hu in. .
