Q: and people cant understand why i like my old vehicles . . . . i believe the used value will take a jump on the older trucks now. budd was out with a friend looking at the new mega cabs. what a damn disappointment. a suppoosedly hd 4x4 truck that you cant put a plow on if you get the cummins engine. so on a truck with the msrp over $54k the front end is so marginal that it cant handle a snow plow that will cost dc some customers. i know my friend is going looking at ford and i dont blame him. roy .

in short rail has a place in the overall transport scheme of things but only a limited one. false. your claims are based on loads and routes that would be catered to had there been or if there is a demand. you are claiming rail service is inefficient due to lack of use. that is false. efficiency is not determined by use but by capacity and capability on a given amount of energy. in short rail is far more efficient at moving freight and people than other modes of travel. personal preference dictates what mode is used not efficiency. if rail were pursued as much as our energy use indicates that it should all of the services you mention would exist and at reasonable cost. fact is most of you would rather spend less money and burn more energy than conserve energy at a slight personal cost while helping both the environment and our resources. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author exactly what i mean as i pointed out in another post in the sense that your example is from the very few routes that are viable. the fact that we are getting new fast services in europe does not add anything as they all connect large urban centres. however much i admire the rail tunnel under the english channel and i use it sometimes the fact is that the cost of construction was huge and has seen no return. the operating profit barely covers the interest due. how about butte to rochester ny try sending your consignment of a table and chairs by rail... in germany every factory had a railhead what fantastic infrastructure you would think. and yet so many have fallen into disuse. dreams dreams dreams. in short rail has a place in the overall transport scheme of things but only a limited one. das for direct contact replace nospam with schmetterling --- ... for me to travel from philadelphia to washington d.c. i must pay for fuel which would be approximately $15 assuming traffic was good. parking in d.c. would cost me $20 for the day if i was lucky. travel time would be four hours or so costing roughly $100 in productive time depending on pay rate/salary. meanwhile a ticket for amtrak would cost $40-$55 for a two hour ride. during the ride i could do paperwork or relax. ... .

not really its very relevant since ford has bought back 1000 units of the psd. problems range from turbo vanes breaking and being injested to engine management glitches. perhaps the most damaging in terms of per incident costs is the injectors that stick open and hydro-lock the engine. ford and navistar are said to be at odds over the issues and it has cost fomoco upwards of $500 million over their warranty costs in the previous year. hopefully your friend will not experience any of this. however given some of the stuff ive read he should absolutley keep records of maintenance and not attempt mods of any sort. i have a friend who just bought an 05 f250 as well so well see. i have a friend who also bought an 05 f350 and tends to beat on it a little. thanks for the info max ill pass it on to him. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

i see no problem with this at all. just by its name suggests that this vehicle was not intended for plowing more in line with transporting a family or large group around with the ability to tow a heavy trailer and do it in reasonable comfort. kinda like a large quad cab or crew cab. i dont see where mega cab suggests not intended for plowing with a cummins but it is okay with a gas engine. if that front end is that close to its limits... we are talking about a $59k truck. this is nothing unusual for dc to do. my 97 with a 5 speed has less towing capacity than the automatic of the same series and the 360 was not available with the 5 speed because the nv3500 simply was not up to the additional torque. they could have increased the spec for the nv3500 to handle it without limitations or just used a nv4500 but the nv3500 was already being used in the dakota and costs less $$$$$ than the nv4500 and would work in the 1500 with limitations so thats what they did. it appears that they have since increased the spec but when i bought mine..... as for the term mega to me that sounds more like a luxury version of a crew cab and who plows with a luxury vehicle of course i dont plow and this is only my personal view on the matter. the deal imo is simply this. the mega cab is a truck whos front end cant stand up to a plow with a cummins engine that weigh about 3-4hundred pounds more than the gas engine. that 3 -4 hundred pounds makes the difference. that they would build a truck that is that shakey is fucked up. this is their top of the line truck!! lol you are not getting an argument out of me as i agree with you. i simply gave a possible reason as to why it couldnt do it not that it was a good one or a valid design decision. btw did you see the new challenger if they actually bring this to the market looking the way it does now even with the fake hemi and a 5 or 6 speed there will be one in my garage ;- it is a pretty car. wonder how much they will cost if it goes into production. i bet that this vehicle is extremely heavy by itself and when you add the weight of the diesel to it pushes the limits of the front end components. it is probably using the same front end as the crew cab to save money. you can plow with a crew cab but does the crew cab weigh less this could be a re-use of parts issue like the trans in my truck. with the rising cost of fuel they might not want to invest more into this model than absolutely necessary different front end components until they get an idea of demand and then will address these issues if they see it as profitable to do so or to even keep the model at all and the crew cab components were probably not designed to carry that increased weight. i guess that my question would be why would you want to use a truck with such a large cab to plow snow to a contractor a truck is a tool like a hammer or saw. if it is a 4x4 then it better be able to plow. while true there are different types of hammers and saws and each one has its intended use and are not all completely interchangable. i dont know how well my 4x4 1500 would hold up plowing does the cab size have much of an effect on the ability to plow with the vehicle such as manuvering and blind spots most plowing is done looking ahead. blind spots go with the game. snow can cause blind spots from one minute to the next. wheel base has to do with manuvering not cab size. fair enough. i dont think i would use such an expensive vehicle to push snow around when far less expensive models could do it just as well if not better but as i said before thats just my personal choice. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

my truck1997 5.2 75000 miles is doing the same thing. rough idle and rough at 40-45mph with overdrive on. although im not getting a check engine light. i have replaced intake plenum gasket tps cap rotorplugs wires cat exhaust and it still runs rough. maybe time for a compression check im at my wits end $900 into it so far. ramman@dodgecity.cc wrote rm@blah.blah writes so you are saying the ignition system and the heads were bad kinda odd coincidence. why new o2 sensors i have been fighting a p0302 for 2 years cyl 2 misfire and have replaced all the ignition components and am thinking it may be the head as well. it damn sure wasnt the ignition stuff. an earlier compression test conducted not quite 2 years ago when the problem first began revealed only minor seemingly insignificant variances. what i did not realize is a 10 lb variance is considered significant when youre chasing misfire problems. also my symptoms were a little misleading. the misfires were occurring only at low idle i.e. sitting at a light idling in gear. as long as you could maintain the idle at or above 1000 rpm the misfire would not occur. fuel pressure was good 52 psi before the dealer tore it down another compression test indicated 15 lbs low on #7 and 10 lbs low on #2 and 5 lbs low on #8. thus both heads were assumed to be involved. i had recently had a couple instances of p0302 and p0300 though the primary problem from day one had always been p0307. a combustion leak test also revealed #2 #5 and #7 sucking air past the intake manifold gasket during the intake stroke. bad intake gaskets improper torque who can say. teardown revealed a cracked cylinder head with the crack appearing across the face of the #7 intake valve seat not repairable without replacing the head. replacing the other head vs sending it out for a valve job was close enough to a push factoring in the labor that we decided not to risk it and opted to just replace both heads. the tech suspected a hairline crack in the right bank around #2 as well but said only the machine shop would be able to say for sure. aside from the plugs which got pretty badly trashed from the combustion chamber cleaner the rest of the ignition parts wires cap rotor were done for thoroughness. the o2 sensors were at my option and no addtl labor parts cost only although they were considerably more costly than i had anticipated. they gave me a 12/12 warranty on all parts and labor which is 9 months longer than anyone else was offering and a free loaner car which no one else was offering. inarguably i probably paid to much and had some unnecessary stuff done but bottom line is its fixed guaranteed to be fixed and i didnt have to get my hands dirty. when you get 5 months away from turning 60 major projects like this seem to lose a lot of the glow they once had ;- hell i stopped changing my own oil 6 years ago. if youve done all the obvious ignition stuff the tsb etc and still having the problem something in the valve train is a strong possibility. try the idle trick. clear the code and then drive for a day or two holding a fast idle on it when you come to a stop. how many miles do you have on it my problems began around 75k. .

on 2006-01-27 221331 -0600 christopher thompson kf4drr@alltel.net said rach im with you on that he didnt mention milky oil so im thinking that possibly a failed gasket into a intake runner. i would think a cracked manifold at a water jacket would leak water into the lifter valley resulting in a overfilled milkshake of a crankcase....but then again stranger things have happened. the mechanic that i took it to did mention that he ran a test by using something that caused the coolant to turn blue. he said there was coolant in the oil and immediately suspected the head gasket. but like i said before how could a blown head gasket get coolant on every spark plug so if it is a manifold problem whats the procedure pull the manifold and look for the leak. hopefully its just a manifold gasket that would need to be replaced. is a cracked manifold a fairly common occurance the engine has 185m miles on it. if the manifold/gasket is the culpret and they get replaced what about the coolant thats in the cylinders will that burn off if the engine finally starts or is there a way to dry out the cylinders short of removing the heads all i can suggest is look for a leak at the mainfold gasket and hope for the best other than that you are looking at a lot of time and decide if you want to do it yourself or take it in for replacement -- you do not want to replace the manifold -- at least an hours shade tree time and not worth the hasssle unless you plan to scrap the truck you took it out of -- so go to a used parts place and get them to do the install and guarantee a new intalled temp themostat and gasket at the same time imnsho rach .

why is it important to change the oilfluid or whatever is in the front and rear differentials. i dont remember ever having to do it with any car i owned. i only remember watching the mechanic check the level on the cars rear end. i have 17000 on my 04 ram 1500 hemi quad. if that helps. thanks because gear oil breaks down over time just like engine oil. while not subjected to the dirt and contaminants of an engine its still placed under extreme pressures and will accumulate metal shavings from gear and bearing wear and clutch material from limited slips. .

tbone writes if you say so but that really doesnt make sense. the error code you are getting indicates a post converter sensor so your vehicle thinks it is or was there. bank 2 iirc refers to the passenger side and sensor 2 refers to the downstream sensor or post converter. without a sensor behind or attached to the converter how does the pcm know if the converter is functioning properly where did you get this cat-back dual exhaust if you disconnect either sensor you will get additional diag codes. you could try replacing the passenger side sensor but i doubt that it will correct the problem. when did the light come on in relation to your installation of your dual exhaust i would also take another look at that converter for that sensor. -- i agree that it doesnt make sense. i had the cat-back exhaust put on about a year ago. the light didnt come on until the last month. the truck only has 38k miles on it. i installed new bosch platinum plugs also. but that was after the light came on. i have the 4.7 v-8. 2001 dakota slt. is there a web site or anybody that can tell me that it definately came with a post cat. sensor if it did why so long for the light to come on i am soooooooo confused. - i will crawl under it again and check for any wiring plugs or sensor. i have made mistakes in the past just not many.....lol. thanks hank easily confused .

i see no problem with this at all. just by its name suggests that this vehicle was not intended for plowing more in line with transporting a family or large group around with the ability to tow a heavy trailer and do it in reasonable comfort. kinda like a large quad cab or crew cab. i dont see where mega cab suggests not intended for plowing with a cummins but it is okay with a gas engine. if that front end is that close to its limits... we are talking about a $59k truck. this is nothing unusual for dc to do. my 97 with a 5 speed has less towing capacity than the automatic of the same series and the 360 was not available with the 5 speed because the nv3500 simply was not up to the additional torque. they could have increased the spec for the nv3500 to handle it without limitations or just used a nv4500 but the nv3500 was already being used in the dakota and costs less $$$$$ than the nv4500 and would work in the 1500 with limitations so thats what they did. it appears that they have since increased the spec but when i bought mine..... as for the term mega to me that sounds more like a luxury version of a crew cab and who plows with a luxury vehicle of course i dont plow and this is only my personal view on the matter. the deal imo is simply this. the mega cab is a truck whos front end cant stand up to a plow with a cummins engine that weigh about 3-4hundred pounds more than the gas engine. that 3 -4 hundred pounds makes the difference. that they would build a truck that is that shakey is fucked up. this is their top of the line truck!! lol you are not getting an argument out of me as i agree with you. i simply gave a possible reason as to why it couldnt do it not that it was a good one or a valid design decision. btw did you see the new challenger if they actually bring this to the market looking the way it does now even with the fake hemi and a 5 or 6 speed there will be one in my garage ;- i bet that this vehicle is extremely heavy by itself and when you add the weight of the diesel to it pushes the limits of the front end components. it is probably using the same front end as the crew cab to save money. you can plow with a crew cab but does the crew cab weigh less this could be a re-use of parts issue like the trans in my truck. with the rising cost of fuel they might not want to invest more into this model than absolutely necessary different front end components until they get an idea of demand and then will address these issues if they see it as profitable to do so or to even keep the model at all and the crew cab components were probably not designed to carry that increased weight. i guess that my question would be why would you want to use a truck with such a large cab to plow snow to a contractor a truck is a tool like a hammer or saw. if it is a 4x4 then it better be able to plow. while true there are different types of hammers and saws and each one has its intended use and are not all completely interchangable. i dont know how well my 4x4 1500 would hold up plowing does the cab size have much of an effect on the ability to plow with the vehicle such as manuvering and blind spots most plowing is done looking ahead. blind spots go with the game. snow can cause blind spots from one minute to the next. wheel base has to do with manuvering not cab size. fair enough. i dont think i would use such an expensive vehicle to push snow around when far less expensive models could do it just as well if not better but as i said before thats just my personal choice. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

okay after i ran the truck a bit i took the alternator support air filter and radiator hose clamp off and looked at the base of the thermostat. nothing at all appears wet around it. based on the amount i lost i would think it would appear a bit wet but not at all. as for the weep hole i can in no way find it. ive been above and below the truck and ran my hand all over the bottom just behind the pully and had more mirrors under it than are in a fun house. big al you were talking about just behind the fan pulley right the highest area i can find wet is along that seam i mentioned above. the oil dip stick actually comes close to this seam as it goes down into the engine. i put some dye in it but dont know what else to try. could the water pump be leaking out of this seam thanks .
