Q: on 3 oct 2006 061708 -0700 mac oct30ax@yahoo.com wrote do you know what kind coolant came with truck---regular green or ext-life orange/pink. im getting ready to flush/replace coolant after almost 4 years but not too many miles but the dodge shop doesnt know for sure what they put in last time. my 98 3.9l had a fairly early water pump failure after 30k about 2 years replaced under warranty. it was leaking green and they topped it back off with green. frank .

miles wrote peterdc100@yahoo.com wrote stock size is 245/75-16 if i go up a size to lets say 245/85-16s will i get better gas mileage in every single case i have ever put larger tires on the result was lower mpg. while the effective ratio should improve it the engine has to work harder to turn the larger tires. ive yet to see a case where it improved mpg. what about going to a slightly taller tire that is lighter and more narrow like 235/85-16s i checked 225/85-16s but no one makes them. my current 245/75-16s weigh 53 pounds michelin the 235/85-16s weight 45 pounds continental. if not would at least this help us; go skinnier - what about going with 215/85-16s. its just about the same height less friction with the road and the tires weight about 18 pounds less than the stock tires. that should help with mpg right thanks .

ignoramus16919 wrote just spoke to a friend of my wife who is a car mechanic who makes money by fixing cars. he mentioned that it could well be a tranny problem. he advised me that once shit starts on chryslers that it only gets worse and advised me to not do any repairs and to get rid of this truck as soon as possible. i am inclined to do just that. i we just got rid of a 1998 ram 3500b stretch extended van that may or may not have a similar drive train as your truck. 5.9 l engine auto trans. the transmission croaked at something like 89000 miles and they rebuilt it for only $3100! we did get a lifetime warranty on the rebuild so if it ever blew again wed be covered. having had major transmission problems on our last three american-brand cars in a row ive pretty well sworn them off. meanwhile im still driving my 1989 toyota corolla station wagon with manual transaxle. maintenance on that one has run about $100/year on average. some years it requires zero maintenance whatsoever. 170000 miles on the original wter pump alternator the a/c refrigerant has never been even topped-up etc. it ought to be possible to isolate grinding noises to the transmission or rear axle. any way you can jack the rear wheels off the ground if it is the transmission you are in deep doo-doo and hes definitely right if you can in good conscience dump the thing do so. if it is the axle then i really dont see how some grinding in there is going to take the transmission with it. jon .
