Q: you only get an airbag deactivator in that cubby hole on a regular cab dakota - durangos and ddqc have a little cubby hole...and yes chnage falls out of it .... j. nute nute923@yahoo.com wrote in i just bought a 2003 durango r/t and have two so far questions gas mileage i am almost freaking out because i am getting like 9 mpg in the city. i know its the 5.9 liter guzzler but the sticker says 12. is there a break-in period after which it will get better please say yes. i went through the same thing with my dak r/t cc; fuel economy improved maybe 1 or 2 mpg tops after a few thousand miles. couldve been me getting used to the truck though. i average around 13 overall and that includes everything from an hour a day of bumper-2-bumper stop-&-go to an hour a day of 80 mph. i noticed on the weekends around town it dips to 11 or 12 where its all stop-&- go. if i mash it a lot itll go down to 9 or 10. the 5.9 is a pig no doubt about it. but you gotta love the torque. dashboard opening there is a small recess in the dash between the driver and passenger to the right of the climate controls. the same place on the left of the climate controls holds the awd/4hi/4lo switch. it seems there is some switch gauge or option i dont have that is supposed to go in there. anyone know what thats for it certainly cant hold anything even change slides right out. thanks to the left of the climate controls in the dak is a change pocket; to the right is the passenger air bag switch on/off. both the change pocket and air bag switch are directly below the air vents. hth. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .
