brian wrote today driving at a steady highway speed 99 dodge pickup i experienced a problem with my cummins diesel engine which if it had of been a gas engine i would have called it a high speed miss . the truck seemed to loose a bit of power when going up a slight incline. the problem seemed to disappear but again on an incline the miss was somewhat evident. i will take the truck in to the dealer as soon as possible. i did open the water collection valve and the problem is still there. about 60000 miles on the engine now. any ideas the crankshaft position sensor may be bad. .

well i replaced the trans fluid and filter and the kit came with a rubber pan gasket - so i rtved the gasket to the pan ran a bead on top the gasket and torqued it to specs. road test - no leaks. next morning all the trans fluid had drained out onto the driveway. i added a quart and it ran out the back end of the pan to trans seal. the old seal did not use a gasket just rtv. is that the best way to seal the pan just run a bead of rtv and forget the gasket what a mess. kpg my bet is the gasket slipped out of place because of the rtv. i never use rtv on a gasket never any leaks either. i have had more problems using rtv so i quit using it most of the time. in this case i would use the new gasket dry no sealant. i do use a little form a gasket spray tack on the gasket to hold it in place. wipe the pan and the gasket surface of the tranny with brake cleaner so the surfaces are clean and dry. then spray tack the gasket stick it to the pan and assemble. guaranteed no leaks. also i would never use rtv in place of a tranny gasket! most people use way too much! greg .
